Will be traveling to Desolation Sound in a couple days. We have never been. After the organized part of the trip my wife and I will take a few days and slowly head back to Anacortes. Any must see places or marinas or anchorages we should make a point of visiting in Desolation or the Canadian Gulf Islands? Thanks upfront!

I don't have any suggestions to make at this point in time. There are many interesting places to visit for sure. What I would request from you is a report on how well your R-23 handle the waters to/from Desolation Sound, and what was your typical cruising speed when making distances as apposed to meandering about on shorter trips. Thanks... 🙂

Do google searches for Princess Louisa Inlet and Chatterbox Falls. If you have time, and want to cross to the mainland side for the return trip, that would be a great side trip.
In the Gulf Islands, I like Saltspring Island. Several good marinas to choose from, and the town of Ganges has a nice arts and crafts market on Sundays as I recall.

Ganges market is on Saturdays.
Princess Louisa Inlet is amazing. In the Gulf Islands, Chemainus is a fun stop: interesting murals on the buildings and a couple fine bakeries. Further south, but a couple nights at the Inner Harbour in Victoria is a delight: an international feel to the city, buskers entertaining on the waterfront.

The list will go on forever: Toba inlet in Desolation sound was one of our best. Chatterbox falls. Going south, Union Steamship Marina on Bowen Island was one of the best on our trip. City of Vancouver was nice for the city life.

Walshe Cove petroglyphs, Chatterbox Falls in Princess Louisa, really good meal at West Coast Wilderness Lodge restaurant just up the hill from Back Eddy marina in Egmont.
