Wanted to share an experiance. When I got the boat set up and reconnected hoses I had apart for winterizing. I was getting very low water flow from the hot water taps . I traced it back to the mixing valve. A trip to Home Depot and a few connectors and now I have great flow.. Extremely hot water and no more mixing valve. I am guessing a bit of something got into the valve and clogged it.. Then I had to unclog the screen on the kitchen tap as sediment went up stream 🙂
All good now

Hi Mark:

Great news on your water flow but your solution made for a coupe of questions for me. I'm not sure I know what the mixing valve is or where it is located, could you describe its location? Lastly was it this part you replaced or just connectors to the mixing valve? Thanks for your help.

There is an extra piece on the tank where the hot water pipe comes out. it has a plastic dial that turns. There is a line that connects to this from the incoming water supply. As you turn the dial it allows more or less cold water to mix with your hot water to control how hot the water you get is. I got rid of all that so the water now I get from the tank is as hot as it makes it so you can get hurt if you are not careful as it is very hot now from the tank .I may or may not replace it later.

With all due respect, taking out the mixing valve can be a significant safety issue as the engine-created hot water can be very close to boiling. Also, the mixing value was added to prevent that hot water line from rupturing due to very high temperatures.

Side note, if your hot water is not hot enough, the manual for the mixing valve tells you how to adjust it. Loosen the square head nut be half an inch and turn the knob in increments of a quarter turn.

If you remove your mixing valve, there is a very good chance you will blow your hot water hoses loose. The hoses are not designed to take the temperature of the hot water created when running the engine. We had to install the mixing valve on Karma to quit blowing water lines loose. Also, as John stated in his post, this will now become a safety issue after you have been cruising.

Good advice I will need to find another down here ..Is getting me by for now . Was not an intentional thing but a quick fix to get things working
