We have a 30S on order and I found a rack I want to hang over the galley. How wide is the wood panel? (I'm guessing it's at least 12" wide) and how much weight could it hold do you think? 5 pounds? (with 1" screws). Is there anything behind the panel like wires we would have to look out for?

Hello,

Depending on how high you were going to mount it depends. The galley tops flip up to expose the range top, sink and passenger seat. This might be something you would want to discuss with your dealer so they can install and ensure it is secure and not connecting wires or have screws poking out the cabin side! Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Actually, no Kevin.. you didn't answer my questions. Let me ask them more specifically.
How WIDE is the wood panel? For example would a 12 inch wide shelf fit?
How strong is the panel? Is it plywood? How thick?
Are there wires or other things between the wood panel and the fiberglass of the boat?

Others have used these shelves in Cutwaters (a Cutwater 28 owner makes them). I want to have one built slightly longer for a different purpose and I want to make sure it will work for that purpose.

Also, how is the panel mounted onto the hull? Is it meant to hold weight or just decorative?

Hello,

Sorry I am trying to figure out what wood panel you are asking about. If you are asking about the wood wall above the galley it really depends on where you would like to mount it as the port side window slopes back and then you have the port aft window. There is a cherry panel that runs the length of the cabin where you could secure a shelf there.

The wood wall is about 1/4" thick and isn't intended to hold weight. The wires for the port side will be in the AFT corner where the cabin speaker is located. If I am still not answering your question shoot me an email so I could send you a picture and you could mark where you are trying to install the shelf. kevinlamont@rangertugs.com Hope this helps...?

Thank you,
