Hi Folks - Since discovering these great boats, a plan has been festering in my mind. I'm thinking about kicking off my retirement in a few years by doing The Loop on a Ranger 29. I'm not sure what my plans would be upon completing the loop. I might want to come back to my sailing life in California, or I might be hooked and just keep on puttering around on the Ranger. Here's my question: If I were to buy a new Ranger 29 in Florida (or a used one if it were available), do the Loop for about a year and then sell it, how much do you think I'd lose in terms of resale value? Maybe some Brokers can chime in on this. I know I'll take a hit, just wondering how big of a hit it might be. I'm actually afraid that I'll never want to part with it, but at least this info will fill in one part of the puzzle. Thanks for your thoughts.

Mike

Boats that sold 18 to 24 months ago for $250,000 are selling for around $200,000. Buy a good used one. There are a few out there right now. I know of one that has every option including a trailer (not Karma) that the owners are trying to get $190,000 for and are even willing to carry the note! I believe this one o be a late 2010 model.

Mike that is a difficult question to answer. It would depend on market conditions, amount of hours on the boat, when in the model year cycle you purchase, and my money would be on you keeping it . I sent a P.M. as well

Or, you could go with my M.O.: buy high, sell low.

When we were boat shopping for our current boat, we were in the PNW. January. It was 43º and drizzling. We were inside the pilothouse cabin of a friend's boat in shirtsleeves, windshield wipers going. We saw a 40' sailboat going the other direction... 3 people in the cockpit, huddled behind the dodger. No one was smiling. The Blonde said, "That could be you... OR, you could get a boat like this and we could be comfortable."

Good point. 😀 I recently bought a sail kit for my Hobie kayak... fun when the weather is perfect. Otherwise, we are WAY more comfortable with our enclosed helm, rain or shine, warm or cold. If I were to consider going back to sailing, it would have to be a pilothouse motorsailor... I'm spoiled.
