Hi

II am looking at a new davit system for my C30-S. I currently have the weaver snap davits but am looking to upgrade my outboard from a 2.5hp Yamaha to a 9.9hp Yamaha and don't want to have to lift it on an off. I like the look of the Seawise system but I have also recently come across the Hurley H2O system and I wonder if that would work on our boat. Has anyone had experience with using the Hurley system on a C30?

Thanks
Simon

I installed the Hurley H2O davit on our 2015 R25SC and found it worked nicely. The only difficult thing was the limited room remaining on the swim platform to address the need to tie down the dingy once it up on the davit. I found it to be a high quality product that worked as described. I especially liked the ability to remove the davit arms for trailering ( and fitting the boat in the garage) and when we elected to use kayaks on the roof instead of the Zodiac or when we wanted to wake surf or just swim off the platform without the tender and davits in the way.

just my opinion, but i'd be wary of sticking unnecessary weight out on the swim step on one of these boats.

the manual version of a seawise weighs 65lbs. The Yamaha 9.9 is 90lbs. You are basically putting an adult permanently on the corner of your boat. Add this to the weight of the dingy and it will absolutely effect your ability to get up on plane.

What are the other options then?
Many have this exact combo of dinghy and 9.9 as a tender and not a lot of serious complaints. In my opinion that if you can't have a useable tender on the back, time to shop for a different boat.

just something lighter - e.g an inflatable rib, 2.5hp outboard.

what you proposing isnt impossible and people are willing to make the compromise as you said. I just wanted to offer an alternate view that these boats are sensitive to stern weight. Does the seawise and a 9.9 plus dinghy exceed the limit, probably not, but its all relative.

I'm pretty confident that the Seawise will be fine. I've been on two separate C30's that have this system (one with a much larger and heavier dingy than mine) and the both planed fine. I just really like the look of the Hurley and am interested in the horizontal vs vertical mounting of the dingy. Just a bit unsure of how well it will fit, particularly with the LPG box.

Thanks very much for the reply Todd. Did you have the LPG box on your swim platform and, if so, did you have enough clearance around that?

Our R25SC had the electric alcohol single burner stove so there was no LPG box on the transom. Given that your boat (and our new R29S) have that box, the Hurley davit probably is not a good option. We have migrated to using our kayaks most all of the time so I had not even thought of the box issue on our new boat and sold the H2O davit with the R25SC.

I bought my 2018 C30 used. It came with a brand new Hurley H20 still in the box with label attached.
I'll let it go cheap if you are interested.
I don't have a dinghy, don't need it.

Sepra 4: I sent you a pm about your Hurley you’d like to sell. I have a friend who is interested, would you send me contact info to the pm message or here.
