Hello, we are checking all the fluids, etc in our new to us R-25. We checked the steering column reservoir and do not see much fluid so we assume we need to add some. The steering wheel says "Ultraflex UP Series Helm Recommended Hydraulic
oil: Oil15/ISO VG 15."

We do not have an Ultraflex manual. I went to the Ultraflex website and still can't figure out which fluid to buy. What hydraulic fluid does everyone use? Also, how full should the reservoir be?

Thanks again for all the help!

New owner of R25, hull#21, 2007, and doing the same thing, going thru the boat and learning how it is put together.

I, after much pulling of teeth got some info from UFLEX USA.
including a more specific spec on the oil. Call me with your mailing address and I will copy the several dozen pages on servicing the steering system and mail it to you.

After I added my AP I had to top off a few times. It did not appear to have a leak but must of still had some trapped air after all the venting I had performed during installation. I got the fluid at West Marine. Can not remember brand but the store manager was familiar with correct fluid. Also, one thing I learned is that if you completely fill when the boat is still it will overflow when you get underway and take on an "up bubble" (submarine term for bow up).

Connect the fluid container to the system filler port using a connecting hose. Punch a pin hole in the highest point of the container. Move the steering wheel (helm) until you don't see any more bubbles in the container. That tells you that you've bled all the air from the system. Put a pin in the hole and tape it in place to prevent leakage. Sometimes you have to operate the autopilot after doing this procedure to capture any air that was there. Repeat the bleeding/filling procedure if needed.
