When the boat is tired out of water what happens to the stuffing box and cutlass bearing. Do they dry out and need special care when reintroducing to water

I've found that my stuffing box does drip a little more after launching after the boat has been out of the water for a while. It normally returns to the previous drip rate after a few days with no action on my part.

My R-25 is dry stacked so I replaced the stuffing Bo's with a drip less shaft seal. Seemed better than a drippy few days every time I used her.

The cutlass bearing should be fine. Packing depends on what kind you use and how long it sits idle. Synthetic packing should not matter. Flax packing , even those impregnated with PTFE, etc, as others have said will likely drip until it gets wet again and may even need to be tightened (give it a couple of days).
