Subject: I received my Garmin Bluechart G3 Vision card

I just received my Preprogrammed Data Card - Bluechart G3 Vision featuring NAVIONICS Data from RT as part of my new 2019 R29 CB purchase. It's for the Puget Sound - Dixen Entrance VCA501L v2019.10.

The documentation that comes with this card indicates goto http://www.garmin.com/mapupdates/ to get started.

As with any software updates one needs to be careful in not disturbing existing Garmin Chart Plotter software. Thus I ask others here who have used this card for updating their Chart Plotter if any issues arose doing the update ? Are there things to be careful about; I have three Chart Plotters on my R29 CB, as well as the Auto Pilot controller and Garmin radio (have two of each). Should they all be powered up when doing the update ? Can I place the card into any one of the Chart Plotters to perform the update ? Other issues ?

Thanks.... 🙂

After reviewing the 'get started' URL site my best guess is that all Garmin devices need to be powered on and for the G3 SD card to be inserted into the primary Chart plotter that in my case is the 7612xsv unit.

I inserted the G3 card into my 7612xsv (the primary Chart plotter with video out to the rear cabin TV) and proceeded to "Update software". It was very quick compared to other software updates I've done in the past. It also seemed the Command Bridge 7612 Chart plotter did not see any G3 data/software so used the card for it and did the "Software update" on it separately.

It's unclear to me at this time if having the G2 vision card, the ActiveCaptain storage card and the G3 card inserted altogether is the correct thing to do.

What I do know is that when removing the ActiveCaptain storage card the system alerts me and requires me to re-insert it.

Is it correct to have all 3 cards inserted ?
