Well well, The snowplow drove by this morning, I kind of feel boat sick this morning, I kind of feel like to go for a cruise but I'll have to wait another 6 months  The tug is in storage for the winter, that is a good thing that we have you the Tugnuts to make the winter past quicker...

Here is a picture of the tug in storage...

well, I'll go shoveling snow now... Have a great day 🙂

what is a snow plow? what is snow?
getting into prime boating season in FL - 69 F.

We are taking the rhumb line down I-5 to the Sea of Cortez this winter. We love our trailer option. Took it to northern Vancourver Island this summer and plan to take it to Florida next winter and head over to the Bahamas....maybe even Cuba. We have all the fitings to plug into RV hookups and Trailer Trawler to our hearts content.

But I feel your pain.

I feel ya,,at least mine is in the driveway, that way I get to climb in it and play boating.its going to be a long winter.

I learned this on a sailing forum 18 years ago: boating seasons differ, not just because of the seasons... we were able to take time off during the winter months and get away from the frozen northland. We worked our butts off during the summer, so only had maybe a day off each week where we could take the boat out. The folks who were able to be on their boats during the summer would write about it - really kept my spirits up. I did the same for them during the winter months... not gloating about being out on the water when some were up to their armpits in snow - writing about keeping that passion burning.

I think most of us can appreciate what it is like not being able to be out on your boat when, or as much as, you'd like. Help others keep the passion going: post some stories and photos about being on your boat. Don't rub it in, take your boat friends along vicariously. There will come a time when you need that pick-me-up.

Best wishes,
Jim

Poopsy, my classic 21 was feeling a little grumpy when I went out to the storage yard-on a 23 degree day here in Utah-and I got in her brother, Thor, my new motor home and pulled out for a week. Poor little Poopsy. But she will get use to it. She will get her revenge when she and I are up lake at lake Powell for several days and Thor will be sitting in the Powell heat all alone.

I just took my Cutwater 30 from New Jersey, down the ICW, to Palm Coast Fl. What a great trip!!

Sounds great. I am thinking about doing the same in reverse. Did you go down the Chesapeake through the C&D? My route will be Jacksonville to Philadelphia. Any thoughts on how long that would take? I heard parts of the ICW were closed. Were you forced into the ocean at certain points?

Hi,
I am looking to do Jacksonville, FL to Norfolk in the near future. I hear parts of the ICW are closed. Can someone tell me where and for how long i.e. weeks, months, indefinite?
How long just to run up the ICW vs. going out into the ocean?
Thanks,
Tom

I'm not sure what, if anything is closed however you have a couple of sources you can check with online. You can try http://www.waterwayguide.com, they have a list of hazards to navigation and or aids to navigation resources.

Yesterday was 73-74 degrees, light breeze (3-4 knots) and sunny. Our daughter is visiting from Germany, loves to get on the water. So, the three of us took our R21EC, Loaf'n, out for almost two hours.

I can definitely relate to that.

yesterday was a clear winter day in Seattle with highs in the upper 40s. Beautiful day to take our 1 week old daughter out for her first time on the water.

Snow.....!!?? Here, in Shoalwater, south of Perth, Western Australia, it is around 28 degrees Celsius, not a cloud in the sky and a slight cooling breeze coming from the south west. Hard to believe we are in the middle of summer. A perfect day for launching 'RHAPSODY', however I have some essential maintenance to conduct so will have to wait till next week. My fond regards from 'down under' to all you snow-bound 'Tuggers'. Stevan

I went down Delaware River thru the C&D, down ICW to Palm Coast back in October. The Dismal Swamp was closed because of Hurricane Matthew so we went the Virginia route. At no time did we need to go out in the ocean. The area that got hit the worst was Fernandina Beach and St Augustine. Number of the marinas were shut down. There were a number of shoaling spots that we read about on either AC or on the Waterway guide updates and also called Towboat for further clarity. I will be making the trip back north late April. Great trip!!!

Hi Nancy & Bobby,
Thanks for the info. How long did the trip take from Jacksonville to the C&D?
Tom

Tom

I think the trip from Jacksonville to C&D is just over 900 nm's. I figure if you average approximately 8 knots (lots of no wake zones) you could make it in just over 2 weeks, weather permitting. It took us 6 weeks because we didn't have a calendar or schedule and neither did the group I was with. Once we hit a nice town...we stayed a few days. We probably hit every bar and restaurant on the ICW. Good for the local economy...bad for the liver. Going north in April I am looking to make the trip in about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks.

When do you think you will be heading north?

Bob

Looking like the end of April. The 28th? My boat is on the gulf coast. Might trailer it to St. Mary's, Ga?
