Subject: Ideas wanted for installing fish cleaning tray on R29 CB

I have the 2019 R29 CB North West Edition. I've recently started to kit out the boat allowing for fishing and crabbing. When not crabbing I can securely stow the crab pot on the swim step. I installed an ACE Brutus crab pot puller for retrieving the crab pot and when it's not needed can easily be stowed with its bag in the starboard side cockpit locker.

For fishing I have installed a single Scotty down rigger on a 6" riser on port side of cockpit gunwale. I also have two new UGLY rods, one with a depth counter as I use it independently of the down rigger. Also have a nice sturdy fish net with an integral collapsable handle rod that stows easily.

I'm left with now installing a removable tray for cleaning the fish keepers.

I've looked at....

1) A tray that can be supported with a pole that inserts into one of the transom rod holders.

2) A flat board that I could attached across the corner rail on the starboard side transom; starboard side of transom door.

3) My final thought is for some form of tray that I can attach to the swim step rails as that would be ideal and keep 'stuff' clear of falling into the cockpit.

What have others down in this regards ?

Thanks for any advice or references to tray products.

Not familiar with the railing arrangement on your boat but I made a little cleaning table out of starboard for my R21EC.(I think it was called starboard) I used Scotty mounting brackets and mounted two them on the stern railing to store it when not in use and mounted two on the port side railing, which it where I clean my fish. I have a wash down hose set up there so it's very convenient , plus it puts the table at a great working height for cleaning the fish. I added a couple of pics in my album for your reference. Maybe something like this would work for you. NOTE: one of the two brackets in each location is the locking style.

Newf: Thanks.... I like your idea/suggestion. I think this arrangement could work for me. The Scotty rod holders; can you point me to a ref for these please? In meantime I will try and find them online.

I got my part from a local store here in Victoria but to take a look at what I used go to Scotty.com and download the catalogue. On page 39 I used item 269 and items 241 and 241L on page 43. There may be other or better combinations of parts but that is what I used and my railing was 1' dia I believe.

Cmjansen: Oh... those SeaDog fish prep tables look awesome. A bit on the spendy side, but they come fully equipped with the rail mounting attachments, so are likely worth it. Thank you for their recommendation. A quick online search showed the 30" wide table/tray selling for $95 to $182 (quite a cost spread).

[EDIT]
I selected the SeaDog - 12” x 30” - Rail Mount Fillet Table.... $95 + $5 S&H. (I liked the towel holder and the holder for the raw water wash down nozzle that is stock on our RT models).

What I liked about it were it having TWO rail mounts with an adjoining plate for attaching the table. This will undoubtedly provide a very sturdy mounting and of course can be angled slightly backwards to allow 'liquids' to flow off the table surface.

In our Marina it's prohibited to clean fish at the dockside so I must do this while out on the waters and having a sturdy well designed table is paramount for me. Mounting on the swim step railing positions the table so no mess will occur in the cockpit proper... I mean to say, I want to keep my cockpit carpet as clean as possible for a long time, regardless of how well it sluffs off all kinds of crud (except for fish bleedings presumably).

Magnum (yes, the marine grill manufacturer) also makes fish cleaning tables and a variety of clamp styles. Not endorsing anyone over the other (Magnum is pricey), just throwing this out here as another option to explore.

I got the 12.5" x 20" to hang off the back of the swim rail of my R-27, tucked inside the factory dingy while pulled up on it's davits. I have the dingy's bench seat in the forward position (to make room for my grill on the port side). Table depth was not an issue. A longer length (width) would fit, but looked awkward hanging out the starboard side (the rails angle in), in order to keep the rear swim step access open. Hope mine's big enough.
