Has anyone changed the impeller ? If so can you please give me some direction. I took the front engine cover off, but could not determine how to slacken the belt. Thanks.

I found the procedure buried in the technical index. Page 21 or so.

There is a tool to remove belt off and put it back on again. Snap on has a set of two, one to remove the belt and one to install the belt. I have one from Mac tools that is a one piece tool and does both removal and installation. I put on a new belt but keep the old one as a back up. Lay a blanket under the front of the engine to catch the impeller house bolt that you WILL drop. Also lubricate the impeller veins with a water soluble lube and twist it into the housing. Bolt up is cramped but easy. Put a mall piece of paper towel on the socket end and press the housing bolt into the socket. This helps hold the small bolt in the socket while threading it into the invisible holes on the housing. Finger tighten all 4? Bolts to ensure they are not cross threaded then tighten in a standard cross torque pattern.

Good Luck

Ps the factory has zap strapped the wire harness under your arms. The cut off ends are sharp enough to draw blood. I smooth out with a soldering gun. Less bleeding then!

The belt can be worked on and off pretty easily. If you put it on the crack pulley first then around the bottom of the water pump as bet you can, just hold it there and turn the engine clockwise and the belt will eventually come around and be set. Just make sure that it it properly set in the groves. To take it off, same thing. Just pull at the belt at the bottom and turn the engine clockwise and work it off. If you are replacing the belt, just cut it. MAKE SURE POWER TO ENGINE IS OFF!

It is easy just go slow and guide it off and on .

Thanks for the help folks. One more ?? - will a 3/8 , 6mm socket fit thru the spokes of the pump pulley wheel ?

Answer-Yes. I have the 4BY2. If the 6BY is the same a 22mm socket on the crank wheel should fit to turn it while working the belt on and off.
