Inoperable stern thruster

R27 bow thruster works fine. Stern thruster inoperable. Fuses have been replaced. Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this problem?

Hello,

I would check to make sure you have voltage at the thruster itself, testing at the battery cable connection. I would also then check the connections on the thruster to make sure they are tight and clean. You could have a bad solenoid but that is inside the cover for the thruster which would require removal of the motor itself, which can be done without removing the boat from the water. Check the control wire connector for corrosion. My 2014 R27 was a mess due to a leaking seawater washdown outlet. Also, Side Power did not use tinned wire in their control wiring (at that time) so, my control wiring was in bad shape. Cleaned it up, redid the connections and then sealed with heat shrink. No problems since then.

yes I had to replace my control cables on my stern thruster due to corrosion. water drips down from the stern cockpit cup holders onto the thruster.

the symptoms started out as the thruster running by itself once the breaker was turned on.

I thought the thruster had failed but it was just the cable.
