Subject: Installing hanging hand grabs on interior ceiling

I recall many London tube rides to/from University and recall the usefulness of the hanging springy hand crabs that had black snooker size balls on their ends suitable for holding with the hand.

Having one or two of these hanging from my cabin roof could be useful me thinks. They would be better than bracing one's self against the cabinets or holding onto the propane stoves metal safety surrounds etc. Having the arm raised vertically and holding onto something while allowing someone to pass by is far more convenient to having the arm outstretched sideways and blocking the passage way.

Here's what I'm thinking... The interior of a London tube many years ago... long since abandoned due to lack of being sanitary etc. 😉 🙁 https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B1A5eD9V7TEzm7

Overhead handholds are great.

Obviously overhead rails are the standard solution. No dangle down to brush your head. So I'm curious why you prefer straps?

I think I'd put a rail or two fore-and-aft under the cabin ceiling. But, having spent hours finding/fixing cabin roof leaks, I'd think long and hard about drilling any more holes in it.

Our last boat was a C-Dory 23 Venture and the rails along the inside of the roof were great. Just one of the things I miss about that boat.

I always liked the hanging hand holds on the London tubes - so easy to grab when moving fwd and aft along the coach isle. Yes, if installing such things, it would be good to locate them such that they did not 'brush the head'. 🙂

The cabin ceiling in my R29 CB is not part of the upper cabin's ceiling. The trick would be to somehow place supporting material behind the false ceiling where the hanging straps/hand holds ate attached.

Maybe I'll make a suggestion to RT to consider these type handholds for their future boat models; be they rails or hanging straps. Installing them during factory assembly would be so easy. They could install some form of secure brackets in the false ceiling that would allow hand grabs to be attached to.
