just bought a 2010 29' Ranger in Seattle which I'm having barged up to home in Alaska. Anyway, i want to get dingy off swim step by installing a small crane(St Croix). Has anyone installed one? thanks Graham

I also purchased a St Croix Crane recently. Should be installing it in July when I next visit the boat (a 31CB).

I did spot check the crane when it arrived. It appears the best place to put it on the 31 (similar layout to the 29 if I recall) is to thru bolt it to the swim platform in the port stern corner. Then, with the clamp included with the crane, attach it to the rail of the platform.

It does line up so the bracket under the platform can be used, allowing for a robust metal connection. I am also fabing a strut to further support the mast since I am going to be at the weight limit of the crane. I'll post my work here for reference. Good luck with your install!

I have an R27 2011 and use the St Croix davit to lift the motor from the dinghy to a motor mount on the swim platform. I also use the davit to hoist the dinghy to a rack I built above the solar panel. I have two mounts one on the side of the swim platform the other with an extension on the port side next to the aft part of the cabin. I mounted an electric ATV 12 V remote-controlled from Harbor Freight with appropriate electrical connections Works great and saves the back. The mechanical pulley lift will work, but the line is too small to comfortably grip. I replaced the wire rope on the winch with Dyneema also from Harbor Freight. I bought a long battery jumper cable 8 gauge and cut off one set of clamps and replaced it with an Anderson connector to the windlass, and connecting the clamps to the battery terminals. My dinghy is an RIB Avon Red Crest fiberglass, with a 15HP two-cycle Yamaha. In use for five years.

Is there any chance you could post a picture of that setup please?
