My husband and I are looking at a 2011 Ranger Tug 29, but I am 5'11" and he is 6'4". Outside of renting one and taking it out for a weekend, any advice on making sure this is a good fit (literally and figuratively)? He wants something trailerable, but we can take out for weekend trips without the slow speeds of a trawler.

For weekends and feeling the need for speed, get a Cutwater.
(and this is from a died in the wool diesel tugboater)

I'm 6'2" and I need to slouch a bit to get around in the berth of my R31. At 6'4" he's going to need to be careful when down below, especially since I imagine the R29 is the same or smaller than the R31.

Can you visit a boat show to get on the boats to see if he feels comfortable? That's a lot of headroom for any trailerable boat.

If you want speed over 16 knots look at either the outboard Ranger Tugs or a Cutwater. Remember that if going wider than an 8’6” beam you will need Wide Load permits to trailer. Boats with a 8’6” hull include the C-28 Classic and RT-27 (both Classic and newer RT-27OB).

I am 6’8”. I cannot speak to the older style R29, but we purchased the newer style. One of the main drivers of our decision, is that I fit as well as can be expected. One selling point, is that the bed is long enough! I can stand in the forward portion of the cabin, and don’t have to bend down too much in the galley area. The 10’ beam was also a selling point, every extra bit of space, I appreciate. I have been able to shower on board okay, but if there is a marina shower available, I usually choose that option. As far as trailering, not a big deal. The widest portion is 8’ off the ground and tapers down. The trailer tires run in the same track as the outside duals on the pickup. Doubt this helps as you are considering the older style, but I certainly appreciate the space on the newer style. Let’s face it, I am not built for most of the world!

I do not regret our decision thus far
