Learned today that the factory setting on my inverter/charger was set for gel-type batteries rather than lead acid/liquid type that are the stock boat batteries on my 2011 R27. Frankly I didn't know there was even a switch. Apparently it's an adjustment on the front of the inverter that can be made with a small screwdriver. I'd send a photo but my boat is in another province. Wondered if this was an issue/concern for others and maybe one of you has some advice/experience. Obviously not my area of expertise. Just passing on some info.

The settings have to do with how the batteries will accept the charge. I do not have my inverter manual with me, but I think that the setting difference between the gel and flooded will not hurt the flooded. Check your water level to make sure that it did not boil off and I think you will be fine.

Gel cell setting is a more gentle charge profile than flooded plate with slightly lower voltage.
You extended the life of your flooded cells by using the Gel Cell profile - at the price of a bit longer recharge time.

The flip side is that Gel Cells can push significantly more current out compared to flooded.
The flip side to that is that gel cells have roughly a 500 recharge-cycle lifetime expectancy.
(as do cheap flooded cells - i.e. Trojan/Interstate/golf cart/etc)
Whereas, a premium flooded battery, such as a Surette, Rolls, etc. (pronounced 'xpenseef' in french  ) is expected to recharge cycle 1200+ times.
