I need a little help with an inverter issue. We were enjoying a beautiful morning at anchor today and we forgot and tried to use the stove on our 1500 watt inverter. Well that didn't work out too well for us. I shut everything down to see if I did any damage. I turned the inverter back on, got the green light on the inverter panel, but nothing on the power rotator switch panel. I checked the GFI on the side of the inverter it looked ok, but now I'm getting a reverse polarity light on the rotator switch panel, but no 120 volts to the AC CB panel. We used the inverter a lot for the last two years, and never any issues. Any ideas?

I seem to remember a reset button on top of my inverter.. Not sure if yours is the same

Tim:

The reset button that Irish Mist refers to, on our R27, is on the inverters side. On mine I need to unplug the power cord on the side on the inverter to push the reset button. If I'm recalling correctly the power to the inverter needs to be in the on position for the inverter to reset. Let us know how or what gets worked out for you on this.

Thank you both, that worked. I didn't think about reseting the invertor breaker with the unit on, but when I pressed the red button it stayed in and I got a green light on the rotary switch panel. Looks like Donna won't be getting a new inverter for Christmas after all! Thanks again.

Ok, maybe they are related, but I don't think so. Just went thru an entire battery replacement, yes all six new AGM s and now I have NO A/C power to the boat......inverter is completely dead, no lights, no switch function. A/C panel is dead so no boat power except my new batteries!
GFI's won't reset....?

Any help?

A couple of things come to mind. First of all did you turn the battery control levers to the off position when you took the old batteries out? If so were they turned back on after the new battery install? Second, and I've done this, open the battery locker area and look around each and every battery to see if any battery cables were missed when you re-assembled everything. When this happened to me several years ago I found one cable nicely tucked behind a battery that I had not connected and when reinstalled everything worked just fine. These may or may not be your problems but its a good place to start. Let us know what the solution to the problem is.

Thanks Jim...good thoughts. Yes, I turned all switches off and then back on...the ones I using at the dock...house batteries only for now.
I had a nightmare about the second issue, but everything was fine until yesterday when the gfi popped and wouldn't reset!? I wonder if this is it?

I found it!! It's called "getting to know your boat"!
There is an A/C breaker (which is mentioned nowhere..) in the aft deck storage compartment on the port side....it was tripped!!

Kent

The good thing about this exercise in frustration, for you, is that you'll probably never forget about this A/C breaker again. Glad it was an easy fix.

Jim

Kent,

On my R-27 there is also a switch in the battery locker that will disconnect the batteries from the inverter. Not sure if you have that on an R-29. I forgot about that one once and had the same issues as you.

I do not have a disconnect for the batteries as you suggest.

After numerous oversights like the ones mentioned above I now shoot images with phone (and it can get into spaces your head can't) of just about everything related and nearby the system(s) I am working on to verify original positions of breakers, settings, cables, etc. It has helped but when there is a breaker hiding out of sight....

Hi Jim,

My inverter quit today while out at sea, I tested everything I could on the water, I have power going to the inverter. When I got back I found this thread, and went back to the boat and found the reset, tried it with inverter switch on and off. That didn't fix the issue. Also it didn't seem to need resetting, it didn't click or move very much at all....
I'm still looking for a solution?

Hi Kent,

I looked for this breaker and couldn't find one on my R27, does anybody know if there is one hidden somewhere on the R27?

Thanks,
Mark

Hello Mark,

You have a much different unit than Kent's. With the remote power on and off switch on, try resetting the GFCI outlet on your inverter itself. Make sure your drains are kept clear in the cockpit as well so the gutters don't overflow and get the unit wet which can cause damage. You're also welcome to call our factory direct and they can help troubleshoot when you are on the boat.

Thank you,

Andrew
