Problem: Inverter won’t turn on - PLEASE HELP - ANY ADVICE
- Microwave, galley, outlets fwd, and salon outlets won’t light up on breaker panel
- Volts on 3 batteries read 12.6 on panel. Should be 13.6 if charging?
- Outlets on inverter won’t work
- Don’t know if batteries are charging
- ABSO display in cave is stuck on R2.0
Info:
- Ranger Tug R29 2017 Northwest Edition (No AC)
- Plugged into shore power 15 amp
- ABSO inverter 2000
- ABSO display in cave
- 24v at inverter 2000 input
- Tried to reset everything - turned off four rotary switches (house, inverter, parallel, engine) and unplugged shore power for 5 minutes
- Problem happened when unplugged shore power for a minute. Problem often happened when connecting to shore power but would be okay after multiple reset tries.
- Boat is semi-live aboard and been using the same shore power for a year

Look for a reset button on the inverter itself. I had that issue once and pressed reset button to fix the problem.

I don’t have a solution but I do have a recommendation that might prevent future issues: use a 30 amp surge suppressor between the end of your cable and the power source. I’m coming from the RV world with similar electrical hook ups at campgrounds and always used a surge suppressor after being zapped once. I’ll be using it on my boat now. An ounce of prevention?

Good luck. I hope the reset fixes the problem.

I have the same year and model, though not the Northwest model. My inverter was behaving the same way, including stuck on the R2.0. I was able to limp along for a bit with resetting but finally swapped it out for a new one. Everything works fine now so it looks like the old unit was simply failing. Fortunately it’s an easy swap.

I had that exact problem on my 2021 29 cb two months ago. It turned out the unit was bad and I replaced it.

In the process I learned that the gfi plug on the side of the unit controls everything downstream, so if the outlet is tripped the unit stops doing anything. That’s worth checking before you replace.

I bought my replacement at DonRowe.com. I had my new unit in a couple of days and installed it in about an hour.
