iOS update to 7.1.1 and Garmin Bluechats

Crash as soon as you select search.

Mike have you heard any timeframe for a fix on this? Sure wishing I had waited in the upgrade!

I became so weary of the annoying aspects of the Garmin app (including its deadly slow search function) that I have switched over to Navimatics Charts&Tides. I beta tested the app and the developer was amazingly responsive, putting in several suggested fixes. I just like the interface a whole lot better, including the current vectors and tidal stage icons plotted on the chart (giving you a synoptic view of the water and what to expect where), and so far the app has been glitch free. That and I don't have to pay for new charts all the time.

I realize that the trade off here is not being able to link to your Garmin plotter, but given the luck I have had lately with anything electronic (another story), I felt it wasn't worth the hassle given the rarity of need, if at all.

Just a suggestion to give this alternative app a try.

Another vote for Navimatics Charts and Tides, it has improved significantly since earlier versions. I also like iNavX since it uses NOAA raster charts which are electronic versions of paper charts. I like the look of paper charts and typically have iNavX running on my iPad Mini at the helm. I update the NOAA charts regularly since NOAA updates them weekly or nearly so.

I also have the Garmin app but no longer use it. I do not have the Garmin network connected to WiFi so the linkage is useless for me. If I want to plan a route I use Garmin Homeport on my laptop or PC then copy the route to an SD card to use in the 5212.

I also am slow to update iOS on my phone and iPads. If I do not have any issues why update? I let others find the app issues for me. I guess I should thank other TugNuts 😀

Crashes just it did under 7.1. I assume everyone has used the Feedback option to pester Garmin for a fix.

There is a reason I stay one update behind on my electronic gadgets until the latest update proves to be good (which is usually about the time of the 'next' update)

Nah.... you miss all the excitement of being a leader and for enjoying the new goodies. 😱 You can lead in this respect while knowing you have Plan B to fall back to. This technique is well proven.

There are some people who will always be 'followers' and be second to reach the moon.... (ha ha).
