Has anyone found a really good way to mount an iPad on your tug's "dashboard?"

Thanks,

Tom A

In our R21 Classic, I used a ram mount with an iPad-specific holder. It is adjustable but still stable. Mounted it to the port side of the dashboard just below window level.

Look at the Ram Mount products. Simple two screw ball mounted non-intrusively in not too conspicuous place, and then a selection of pivoting clamp-on arms are available with the iPod mount clamped into the other end. Killer, even in the heavy vibration and turbulence of a working bush helicopter.

+1 on the RAM mounts. I've got an iPad and an iPhone on the shelf above the helm using these mounts. Both stayed rock solid in five footers.

As others have said a RAM mount is the best. I purchased mine from GPS City. It securely holds the iPad (mini in my case). I can easily remove the iPad, the charge cable remains clamped into to the mount. I installed a Blue Sea 12V to USB power socket behind the helm console so I can power the iPad continuously.

Thanks to all who replied. Since my "dash" is flat and sloped to face the helmsman, I'll probably go with the simple iPad holder from Ram without the arms and sockets.

If you use the RAM iPad holder only, without any arm, you may find that you need to find some way to mount the holder proud of your sloped surface. A block of wood or a piece of starboard, for example. Mounting the holder flush on the surface might limit its functionality, ie. ease of insertion and removal of the iPad from the holder. If it were me, I would at least use one of their short arms to allow some adjustment of the iPod screen, to reduce glare when needed or to allow someone not directly in front of the helm to see the screen more clearly.
