Is a digital thermostat available for a Webasto heater control on a Ranger 2017 R29. The temperature varies too much with the existing rheostat that just has radial lines. A specific temperature can not be set.

Reasonably sure the answer is yes. Suremarine packages their "deluxe" Webasto heater kits for both the AT2000 ST and the AT40 with the digital thermostat. Not sure which heater is in the R29, but I think it is the AT40. If you know which model you have, a call to Suremarine in Seattle would confirm your options.

I looked into this a little for my 2018 R29.....Emphasize "little."..... But in my abbreviated research, there was no electronic control for the model in my boat.

I did not do a real in depth search or look into whether it would be possible/practical to update the all or part of the furnace.

One of my pet peeves of this boat is that the thermostat is buried in the cave, while the largest duct is in the berth....so the berth gets HOT HOT HOT before the thermostat recognizes warmth..... the only way to deal with this is turn the "thermostat" way down so the whole salon area stays quite cold overnight... or remove all the blankets 🙂

It isn't as big an issue during the day when there is a little more air movement through the cabin....

I will be following this thread as well.

Thanks.

Suremarine’s kit doesn’t use a Webasto thermostat.

One of the cool things about Suremarine’s Webasto diesel heater installs (I had one on my sailboat) is that they use a proprietary control board (the Suremarine Air) which interfaces with the heater and with the fuel pump. It makes installations much easier, including easy install of basically any household thermostat. It was a great system.

The Webasto install on our boats (at least on my R-31) uses a wiring harness to connect to the Webasto. I would bet a call to Suremarine they’d be able to tell you what you need to convert a standard Webasto install to one which supports the thermostats they sell. Webasto’s manual for the Air Top 40 Evo suggests you can use a regular thermostat but has no instructions for doing so.

Note one thing I wasn’t able to answer researching online: our boats have the Airtop 40 Evo and use the Evo control panel. Suremarine advertises the Airtop 40. I don’t know if they’re dropping the Evo for brevity or if it’s a slightly different, less high-tech model.
