I live on the main channel of a lake and was wondering if it is safe and practical to keep a Ranger 31 tied on 1 side to 2 piles. I am not allowed another lift or piles 15 feet from the dock or I would add them. I am not comfortable having the boat tied to the floating dock. I did have a Ranger 25 tied to my floating dock 1 winter but that was before all the surf boats and I would like the boat here during the summer. If this sounds reasonable what would be the best spacing of the piles? I have someone who says they can drive a couple large piles for me amd I would pad them.
Thanks,
Pat

My boat is tied up to the posts that cover the slip, I have them on both sides. I tie the stern to the forward posts and the bow to the aft posts to keep the boat in place. I also use a small girdle line to keep the boat closer to one side of the slip to accommodate a large deck locker.

Only been in a few marinas where it was necessary to tie to posts. I remember one marina (Santa Barbara I think) had floating corrugated black plastic pipe over the posts. It was nice tying to as it moved up and down with the tide and the grooves held up the line, also it was a much nicer material to bump into. It looked like large black corrugated drain pipe, maybe you could find something like that to put over your posts.
