Hey Tugnuts. I have a 2014CW30S the previous owner put a GC10 backup camera in. For some time it worked on the 7212 chart plotter. Not working now. In “devices” on the 7212 it shows the camera but in Media it is not there. I did a software upgrade this fall. I see the NEMA tree behind the head mirror but the GC-10 is not plugged in there. Is there another tree? If so, where?

I don't know about a 2nd NEMA 2000 tree, but I believe the GC10 is a direct video connection, not a NEMA 2000 connection.

Jim, so it plugs directly into the 7212?

That is the impression I got reading about the unit on the Garmin web site. If that is correct, there should be a BNC type connector on the back of the 7212 and the camera should plug into that. I don't have a camera so I am only going by what I have been told by others who have one and what I read on Garmins web site.

Ed,

Specific to your question, on our R27-OB there are two locations for NEMA 2000 backbones. One location, as you mentioned, is behind the dashboard, accessed from behind the the mirror in the head. The second location is underneath the binnacle on the hull.

If the camera is a Garmin Network device then it most likely connects with an ethernet style cable directly to the chartplotter...

That's my 2 cents worth.

We have the gc10 camera. It has a video cable and is not officially a Garmin Network device. Hence it does not use an Ethernet cable and plugs directly into the video port on the back of our chartplotter. As such, if you have more than one chartplotter, it can only be viewed on the chartplotter to which it has a direct connection. This is not an issue for us as our second chartplotter is on the flybridge where we already have decent visibility. The place we need it is at the lower helm.

Thanks all. I will get a good look at the back of the 7212 tomorrow.

It’s in the cave, below the helm seat. Have to take apart the forward, starboard mouse fur panels to get to it.
