Its to Darn HOT!

its so hot outside and I wish there was some type of vent on/off for the heater below the captains chair . No matter what heat seeps out of this vent.

This is what I did to stop the heat for now during the Summer months.

1: I bought a small piece of the plastic corrugated sign material people use and cut it to the size of the vent . 2 dollars.

2: I bought some Pipe insulating tape from ace hardware for like 3 dollars and change.

3: I taped up one side of the corrugated plastic sign material

4: I used the same screws that are in there to then screw this back into place and block that heat . now I feel much better .

when the colder months roll around , ill just remove this and put in the drawer for next summer.

That piece is plastic, otherwise I would have and would have looked a lot nicer.

Also to note , its one singular part , meaning that grill is attached to the inner workings of the unit so you cant put something behind the grill , which also would have been my preference .

I have to admit that I am not familiar with the larger diesels in the 25s and the 27s, but on my 21 there are two heater hoses that come off the top of the engine. Both hose connections are in fact brass inline valves that have screwdriver slots that allow the internal ball valve to be closed. When the screwdriver slot is in line with the hose the valve is open ..... when the screwdriver slot is perpendicular to the hose it is closed and when both valves are closed no engine coolant is going to, or coming from the cabin heater. You might check to see if your engines are so equipped and possibly give the cabin heater a summer vacation. 🙂 Fran

Unfortunately, at least on the R-27, accessibility to the back of the water heater is almost impossible. During my usual check of clamps I failed to see any small slotted screw valves. Finding a spot to install valves that are convenient will be a challenge. An easier spot may be at the engine as the lines are going back to the water heater. However this would prevent heating the water in the water heater as well.
It sure is nice though in the colder months when you can lay your feet over the edge of the step and get them nice and toasty. 😀
