Subject: It's was bye-bye R-21EC today
Well, it was kind of a sad day 🙁 today as my R-21EC was lifted from the water and placed on its EZ trailer and then hauled away to the Ranger Tugs factory depot as my trade-in for our new 2018 R-27. It had only been in salt water for a few weeks after being in fresh water for over 18 months and I was amazed at how much growth had accumulated on the R-21EC's hull. As the boat was lowered onto the trailer bunks I could hear all the barnacles groaning.
Our new R-27 will complete its factory build by Aug 4th. Then a few days will be needed for its bottom to be painted twice and we should then likely have it by Aug 11 delivered to our Marina. RT (Tim) will spend a day with me going over all the boat's operations and whatnot, and second day will be with RT (Kenny Marrs) on the water making sure all is well etc. I did have a brief sea trial at the Bremerton Trawlerfest May 19th.
I do intend to goto the RT Kent factory during the R-27's build process to gather/take as many photos as I can for my archives and records of where things are that end up hidden from view once the boat has been completed. I did this for our R-25 and R-21EC and the photos were very useful to me over time.
We did have a bit of a panic with hull colors. At first we were going for Fighting Lady Yellow, then Laurene Green and we all seem to be in agreement for the Laurene.... then 1st mate made some comments (not to be spoken out aloud) and we then switched to Claret red. Claret red stayed on our Purchase agreement for a few weeks until 1st mate had another thought or two 😉 .... and now wanted Midnight Blue. So Midnight Blue will be the final choice. Andrew was very good about the color switch-arooes and was able to deal with the changes lucky for us. It turns out that the hulls are now molded well ahead of the boat's build schedule so Andrew had this Claret red hull which we no longer wanted.... but lucky for us & RT there was another customer who wanted Claret red so the issue was resolved with no one getting upset. I also think this jostling about moved us up one boat build number to get us the boat in early August rather than later. 😱 Well done Andrew.... 😀 Lesson learned.... must be more attentive and listen more to 1st Mate's mutterings. 😉
Hey.... anyone interested in a 28' covered slip at the Port of Edmonds marina for a month until around Aug 9th ? PM me if you are. Thanks. 🙂
I don't know how long others take on deciding on their boat.... but we started back in early April being very excited about the R-23. After about a month or so we started leaning heavily toward the new 2018 R-27. So it's taken us a little over 4 months working things out, discussing with Jeff, Andrew and Kenny and having the opportunity of actually getting onboard a local owner's R-23 and seeing the new R-27 up close at the Bremerton Trawlerfest with me laying down a deposit for the R-27 to arrive at a delivery of our new R-27 come early August.
