Jabsco Manual Flush Toilet Not Filling (R-23)

The head has never been used before and there is fresh water in the tank. When "fill" is selected no water enters the bowl. The handle is difficult to push up and down and it feels like there is a force counteracting the downward push. When "empty" is selected the backpressure in the handle goes away but still no water movement.

I know this is a very simple fix and haven't yet filled the bowl manually and then tried to flush. What do you think I'm doing wrong?

Does the head on a R23 have a seacock to pull water from outside? Even if pulling from fresh water holding tank, sounds like you have to open the valve first.

Not familiar with the Jabsco Manual Flush but I'm guessing it needs electricity to move the water. If so I'd check the blade fuse for the toilet to see if it might be burned out.

There is a seacock in the center compartment in the cockpit.

Sorry, the last response was short because of fat fingers.

You need to have that seacock open to fill the toilet with the flushing handle. Alternatively you could use the fresh water from the sink/shower faucet.

The seacock is under the raw water strainer in the front of that cockpit bilge. Once it is opened you'll be filling/flushing in no time .

The R-23's manual marine head requires raw water and this is drawn in from the thru-hull port and strainer. The thru-hull valve handle needs to be in the open position to allow the raw water to be drawn in when activating the toilet's pump handle.

Thanks for all of your responses. This is truly a GREAT community of Ranger fans. There was so much going on during the survey I missed when the handle was opened and closed. So much to learn, but that's part of what makes buying a boat FUN!! 🙂
