JABSCO Remote Controlled Searchlight problems

A couple of weeks ago my JABSCO remote controlled search light on 21EC stopped working completely. No light. No movement. Investigated replacing parts such as controller in cabin or power boat inside light but very expensive. Tested controller on advice from local JABSCO agent and it was working ok. Powered the light globe from separate 12 volts and it was working. Checked the motors the same way and they were ok. Some of the wiring on roof of cabin looked suspect and was bare so replaced it. Still not working? Tracked problem to poor connections inside the light from the three wires from the controller to the power board. Removed, cleaned and replaced connections. Reassembled the light and all working. So if you are having problems check the connections inside the light first. A bit difficult to take apart but once you remove the glass light and globe the inside just slides out. Just a bit tight.

Mine just stopped working completely this past summer and it's on my list of things to check out in the Spring. I really never use it - seems more of an ornament than anything else, but it should work. Usually stick a hand held out the window if I really want a practical, convenient spotlight.

Thank you for that very informative post. I shall file that away for future reference! My searchlight is still working well but in the event it fails..... I now know where to check!
