I have a Jabsco toilet on my 2012 R27. It is original. The touch pad flush controller is inop. None of the four membrane switches cause the toilet to perform when selected. I strongly suspect that this failure relates to a heat shrink butt splice where the factory did not activate the heat shrink on the appliance side and left it open ended during assembly of the boat. My boat is FULL of those open-ended heat shrink butt splices and the open end on the appliance side eventually corrodes and fails.

Before I try to trace the panel wiring to the butt splice, has anybody had one of these touch pad flush controllers fail? If so, what was the fix?

Bill, check on the back side of the control panel to see if there are push on spade type connectors. If so they can come off ,loose Or corroded. Let us know what you find.

I did remove the panel to check for loose or corroded connections. There is only a wire going into the panel. Unless I hear something different here, I’m going to attempt to trace the wire.

As if we haven’t had enough toilet posts lately, here’s the resolution to my inop Jabsco Lite toilet flush panel: Toilet replacement.

The flush panel wiring goes straight to the toilet with no splices in between so corroded open butt splices was not the issue.

By complete serendipity, I discovered the toilet was filling without command. “Fill” is one of the four options on the flush panel. Twice, a couple days apart, I just happened to be in the cabin when I heard the toilet pump run and fill the bowl. I wasn’t in the head and I hadn’t pushed any buttons on the flush panel. After these episodes, I tried each of the four buttons on the flush panel and none functioned.

Through some research, I found that inside the toilet body is a control box that sends flush panel commands to the toilet pump. So the problem was either the control box, the flush panel or the communication between them. New flush panel, control box and wiring assemblies are available for $180. A whole new toilet was $550. I opted for a whole new toilet that also provided some improved components.

These toilets have a pretty horrible reputation, but ours has worked fine for the three years we have owned the boat. The big complaint seems to be a belt and pulley arrangement between the motor and the pump. If anything stops that pump from operating, the motor torque breaks the belt and/or the pulley so if you have one of these toilets, be damn careful what goes in the bowl. Inexplicably, belt and pulley repair kits are just about impossible to find in the U.S.

I have had similar issues with my Jabsco Lite Flush toilet in my 2011 RT-27 Classic.

Jabsco is now owned by Xylem. There is a gentleman (Paul Campagna) in Technical Support who has been incredibly helpful to me.

I’ve had phone and email communication with him and you are correct, very helpful. When I first called, I got VM with the “Leave your name and number and I’ll call you back...” and I thought, “Yeah, right.” But, by golly, he did call back and it was less than 30 minutes later, a rare experience with tech support these days. And he returns email promptly.

His number: 978-282-5246

His email: Paul.campagna@xyleminc.com

Be nice to him, Tugnuts!
