I am unable to open the sliding window over the dinette table on the port side of my R25. It has been stuck for a number of months. I've tried going around the window on the inside between the glass and the rubber seal with a dull knife, spraying with soapy water, lots of physical force, but no success.

Does anyone have a suggestion as how to get this window open?

Thanks

Probably already know this, but be sure the window is CLOSED completely as you cannot release the latch if it is partially closed.

This has happened to me many times and it can be tough to release. I've found pushing the window further into the closed position then you think is normal and before you release any pressure push the window opening latch and then pull back. Some times this works for me but other times I get frustrated, go do something else and come back to it later. Once open I spray a little Tri-Flow lubricating spray on the latch and tracks to help keep it operating a little easier.

Besides pushing the window forward just a bit before pulling back, we regularly treat the tracks on the windows (top and bottom) with Liquid Rollers, a lube product by Mary Kate...

If the windows get coated with salt water and not rinsed, it can really make 'em stick. Try flushing the window tracks with some vinegar water (50/50) - it cuts through the salt better than soapy water.

Best wishes,

I agree with all the responses. Let us know how you eventually resolve this as your case could be unique... and then we can learn more about our boat quirks. Thanks... 🙂

Norm,

On my R27, the rear-most, port-side window is very, very hard to open. I've found that I need to make sure the window is fully forward, then when I push the latch to open the latch, I also need to pull in on the window (or get someone from the outside to push on the window) to get it to release.

I have had similar issues with the same window. It may be related to the smaller size as compared to the other windows. I had previous issues with windows at Helm and 1st Mate seat but I determined the inner edge of the slide rail was bent toward window slightly. These bent locations were very minor and not easy to see but did interfer with window sliding properly. I took a small flat bar and gently straightened the bent portions and both windows have worked well since. However, the window over the sink has no bent places and still sticks badly.

Hi all;
Thanks for the suggestions regarding the jammed window. By judicious prying of the catch with a screwdriver, I was able to get it open. It is definitely a problem with the latch, but exactly what I am not sure.

cheers
