What size is the Jim Black Boat Hatch Adjuster on the forward berth hatch on a (2018) R-31?

I broke ours (doh!) and need to order the replacement, but have no idea what size (and it has since disappeared from the boat; likely an overzealous cleaning crew as it did appear to be trash).

And is this the best place to order (https://www.greatlakesskipper.com/jim-b ... uster-arms) or can the factory sell me a replacement?
 
That's about the only place i've seen to order Jim Black Hatch parts. W/ regards to your question, it looks like the adjuster sku's are applicable to different sizes of hatch. I'm wondering if you measure your hatch, does it line up with the measurements in one of the sku's for the adjusters?

Great Lakes Skipper is the only place I’ve been able to source a Jim Black hatch adjuster. I’ve seen another online source with them on their website, but they are perpetually out of stock. Measure your hatch size and go to the webpage in your post.

I don’t know if the factory stocks them. Call them to find out.
 
I had a crack in the frame of my Jim Black hatch and I contacted Hi Tide Manufacturing (parent company) and they sent me a new hatch. Just use the contact us form on their web site. https://www.gotohmg.com

This is brilliant, thank you. I have cracks in both the deck hatches above the forward berth, specifically the outer part that lifts up, the corners are cracked. Hopefully they will replace. Did you have to pay for them, or was it warranty replaced?

@Dave how did this turn out? I have a crack in the corner of one midship hatch (over the port / nav seat) and will try contacting them.

On a related note, anyone have advice on temporary fix? It's a hairline, maybe 1/16" crack through the inner and outer plastic frame of the hatch. No idea how it happened. I'm thinking LifeSeal or similar as best I can fill the crack and on top.

They told me no, as the hatches are too far out of warranty. The two bow hatches have slight cracks but not too bad so far.
 
Hi Tide just replaced both forward hatches on my 2020 R29 under warranty. I had to pay for shipping (about $180.00)

The new ones have redesigned, reinforced frames.

SJI Sailor, seems like one of the good marine caulks suitable for adhering plastic to other surfaces is a decent option, The only trick may be that the crack is so thin and caulks generally are so viscous that it may be hard to get it to penetrate the crack. As a temp fix, to keep out moisture, it may be as good as anything.

But on the chance this might be an option, I thought I'd pass on a "fix" using super glue and baking soda (yah, I know, weird!). I just recently learned about this, and haven't tried it. Below I've linked to two Youtube videos (evidently there are several on this). They show a wide variety of repairs to various objects using the super-glue plus baking soda combination. Some are pretty darn creative. None strike me as having long-term durability. But I found the videos intriguing for the option of temp fixes to a variety of things that ordinarily would be challenging to fix at all. If nothing else, they are entertaining for the creative ways people have gone about some of the repairs.

That’s fantastic! I guess because my boat is 6 going on 7 years old, they are not as forgiving… the cracks are very minor and not impacting the operation or watertight mess at this point, but I’ll probably ultimately replace them.

Thanks @Gin for the suggestion! That is very interesting about super glue and baking soda. Love the gear repair example in the first video in particular.

Will update whenever it gets dry enough in the PNW to look at fixes. (Maybe July, just kidding. Or maybe not kidding.)

Pretty sure we're in the great wet dark time for a while, given the 2 week forecast. won't stop me from using the boat though! :-D Do we know what size the hatches are on the C30? I guess they might be different for the sedan vs CB, and for the bow vs roof...
 
The Jim Black hatches on the 2021 R29 are 19 X 19 (over the bed) and the cockpit roof and 12 X 17 over the helm seat and the companion seat. Another source for them is Great Lakes Skipper (greatlakesskipper.com).
 
Good Afternoon:

I pulled the winter tarp off last week in preparation for the season and shortly afterwards, NJ experienced lots of rain. I found a leak from a frame corner crack on the cabin escape hatch. In the hopes of having to replace a good hatch, I found this post and decided to try the super glue and baking soda repair.

After removing the hatch, I found the crack went all the way through the frame. I used a dental pick to expand the crack, taped around the area, and applied the glue and baking soda. I then poured water on the area and found no leaks.

I will be monitoring throughout the season to see how the repair holds up. If it does, it was worth the $4 for the glue!!
