After a series of sea trials, numerous posts with countless questions, and weighing the benefits of various boats, I’m happy to say that I placed my order for a Ranger 29 CB. I also just signed up for the Points North seminar because I fully expect to be going to the Desolation Sound gathering. I have to give a shout out to Andrew and his crew for all the help. I look forward to visiting the factory to take a tour. I’m lucky to live within a half hour of it.
My family is very excited, to put it mildly.

Woo Hoo, awesome for you folks. You will love Desolation sound! It is an awesome trip.

Spend some time out near Mitlenatch Island with the engine off and listen for the Humpbacks.

So pleased for you Eastside3... 😀

We lived in Woodinville for 20 yrs and it was while living there that I met Jeff Messmer who lived nearby. The meeting was at a local gas station opposite the old red brick Hollywood Schoolhouse. The gas station has long gone because now the big round-about is at the base of Hollywood Hills. Jeff was delivering a R21 EC and I couldn't get my eyes off it. We had a long chat and.... One thing led to another after this meeting and later on called Jeff up on Father's Day and asked him to "make my day" 😉 ... and we ended up purchasing a 2010 R-25 in late 2009.

We left Woodinville for Edmonds 9 years ago for a smaller house (downsized) and now by mid March will have a 2019 model R29 CB in our Edmonds slip.

You probably will get the 2020 R29 CB model if buying new and hope to see you in The Port of Edmonds in the future - try for Dock S which is where I'm at in slip S-28 (it's less expensive than Dock R where several other R29 S/CBs are located). Try for a slip on the south side of the dock finger because with a bow in you get the sun in afternoon that makes it nice for afternoon cockpit lounging. 😀

My son and I are going to the Monroe factory tomorrow to take photos of my R29 CB being built up. I want to catch things while the hull's inside is fully exposed before all the wires, hoses, tanks, pipes, pumps, etc become hidden when the cabin is installed on top of it all.

CONGRATULATIONS.

Congratulations Dan and Family!!
Then next few (waiting) months are the hardest!
I am certain that you'll love the boat. And I commend you on the color choice!

I hope to see you in Desolation sound with the gang!!

Barry, I look forward to seeing pictures. I’m curious if you are having the boat name applied while it’s still at the factory or if this is something you’ll need to take care of later. Also when you are quoted a delivery date is that a turn key date including having the bottom painting already done?

Dan,

Congratulations, great choice. We took delivery of our R29-CB last July after placing the order at the boat show. Spent the summer learning the boat. We live in Clearview, so just about 20 minutes to the Monroe factory. It was a treat to see the boat being built and meet some of the people that put it together.

We absolutely love the boat and everyone at Ranger. We'll be doing the Points North Seminar (I went last year but my wife needs to attend so we'll go this year as well). I'll keep an eye out for you and introduce myself.

Regard your questions to Barry, our delivery date was the date they brought the boat to us complete with bottom paint. Our date actually moved up a bit, maybe you'll have the same luck. We had Margeaux Marine Graphics do the name on the boat. She did it at the factory just before delivery (we had the transom, dinghy, and both sides of the cabin done).

We also had Margeaux do ours at the factory. She does very good work, and her prices are reasonable.

I have the photos and will post back with a shared Photo Album for you to view and can download any of the photos/videos as you wish. The factory visit at Monroe with Andrew was awesome, as it has been before for my RT boats I've purchased. I spent maybe 1 hr chatting with Andrew and the factory foreman Fraser and then another hour spent taking as many photos as possible. It was a good time to visit the factory as they had the exposed hull, the liner and the cabin as separate pieces so every thing was exposed. The engine had not be installed at the time but was able to view it in its box so photographed all the engine stickers on the box. I was able to video the installation of the aft end of the keel being placed into position using Hero Red colored Thickso mud/pasted and for it to be aligned correctly for the prop shaft to the engine. I was also able to see how the cabin roof liner was glued up to the cabin roof and how they installed the cabin's front facing curved glass.

I now will have evidence from the photos where all the things are when hidden.

My AIS 600 option has been updated to be the new Garmin AIS 800 with its internal GPS that now avoids having to have an external antenna. Note that the Garmin AIS 600 has been superseded with the introduction of the Garmin AIS 800 unit. Knowing where this AIS 800 box is located will allow me to configure it with the software when I get my MMSI via the Ships Radio license application. I also now know where the Garmin's auto pilot's compass is located as it will be essentially hidden once the boat has been completed. I have photos so you will also know this information also when you view my Photo Album.

The boat has the new modern up-to-date color scheme for all the seating fabric....niceeee. 😀

I noticed the Inverter has to 110v sockets at its aft end.... I was unaware of this feature and these will be useful for me.

I'm very pleased about the location of the Macerator cut-off valve as it's so much more accessible than on my R27/OB.

The hot water heater was standing close by the boat waiting to be installed, so got photos of all the stickers on it that become hidden once installed. Boy, it's a bigger tank than what I had envisioned.

I verified my hull was indeed Hero Red and not some color I had not ordered.

I'm so pleased with the extra two bow located storage lockers and the anchor chain/rode locker is simply huge... 🙂

My boat delivery is still good for week of Mar 18 and this will include it having its bottom paint as that takes around 1 week to be done and dried.

Margaux will be doing my boat graphics as she has done on my previous 3 RT boats. She does such a good job.

The tubing used for the Webasto diesel heater for moving heated air to around the boat are of a larger diameter, and the heater is much bigger compared to my previous heater on the R27/OB. Presumably necessary for heating a far greater cabin volume and also for the cockpit area. Access to the heater is easy once the Refrigerator is removed.

The fresh water tank is very large and sits slightly to port side of the boat's center line.

The six batteries are with 5 being on port side and one on the starboard side.

If I want to add a charcoal filter for the holding tank's vent line I now know exactly where the vent line is so I can splice in the filer later on.

I came away from my factory visit really 'pumped up' and excited for the boat to be in my slip in week of Mar 18.

Upon returning to Edmonds son and I stopped off to our old Woodinville stomping ground and had a very nice lunch and to celebrate. My son attended all the Woodinville schools growing up; Woodinville Elementary (the old downtown red brick building that is now City Hall), Northshore Middle School and Woodinville High - son was first to graduate from this high school as it had been freshly built at the time. Woodinville has changed a great deal from having its Main Street being gravel and the old trailer park being dismantled and made into a downtown-looking village and the south and north bypass roads. It used to be on the north end where there's Alberstons grocery store and Bank US there was a large open field with a small yellow colored house centered in the field and a white horse galloping around. There was always a line of youngish looking people coming and going to/from this house for reasons I'm not entirely sure about, although my son smiles when I mention this.

It was a good day. 😀

Barry, sounds like you had a great day. Coincidentally I went to Edmonds, walked different docks, E, F, R, and of course S dock. I promptly returned to put my name on the 32’ wait list. There were quite a handful of 29s in the Marina, along with a 31 that was heading out. I like the length and layout of the docks in Edmonds. They are pretty struck (on paper) but I’m hoping I can get them to work with me in terms of me having my name on the waiting list even though my boat won’t be ready till June. I was told if I’m offered it tomorrow and I decline, I can’t be offered another slip for 6 months so I should consider paying for it and chancing the likeliness of subleasing it. I also know they say they are sticklers about the total LOA however I saw a lot of boats moored with their Dingys attached. Right now the 36’ slip is a huge jump up in price but it also has a 18-24 month wait list. The 32’ should work quite well. I’m pretty confident I won’t have a problem getting a slip.

I wonder if the new seat colors you have are what is going onto the 2020 model. I guess that makes your boat an official 2019 1/2.
I had a conversation with Dave at King Marine yesterday and he told me that it would be wise for me to wait till I’m closer to the build being completed before he measures anything since there have been times where small changes were made at the factory that ended up throwing off his design. If you’re planning to have him make an enclosed cockpit with access to the CB, I already started that conversation so hopefully he can come up with something that really looks and functions great.

So you’re going with the AIS800.... nice. I have a few things I’m upgrading as well. I look forward to my factory visit(s). Looks like I’ll have my boat 3 months after yours... just long enough for you to put together the “Barry’s big book of R29 tips”. Lol

Dan: I'm posting my Shared Photo albums in a separate post.... so look for them elsewhere.

Note... the Garmin AIS 600 is no longer in production. If you order AIS 600 for your boat it will be the AIS 800 unit. This AIS 800 unit now has a built-in GPS so there's no need for an external GPS antenna. This is true also for the Garmin 7612s as they have internal GPS just like for the AIS 800.

My R29 CB (without dinghy on swim step) will be moored at The Port of Edmonds in slip S-28. Hopefully it will occupy this slip week of March 18. 🙂

Great photos Barry. Thanks for sharing them. It certainly gives me more to look at as I count the days.

Barry,

Just a note to say how much I enjoy your detailed posts... and informative details!

Thanks.
