I have seen no postings on this subject yet. I am considering mounting a motor mount on my 2005 R21 just to have the safety of a backup. I have not yet seen in any photos smaller Rangers with any motor mount, but would have thought it would be a fairly standard addition for safety reasons. Is there anything I should know? would likely get a small 6 to 8 hp. 4 stroke, or new 2 stroke, long shaft, that runs on standard gas.
Also, I do have the swim platform which has a fairly sturdy mount to the stern, so might also consider the option of making a clamp/bolt on removable motor mount to place on top of that platform.

ideas or comments appreciated

I have a kicker on my EC 21 and really cant imagine not having one for the wear and tear it saves on my main motor when trolling and for the extra security it provides. I use a Nissan 4 horse which works great. Its mounted in the center of the stern. I can also steer the boat from the cockpit area with the kicker which gives me some flexibility on where I operate the boat. I can get around 4 knots at WOT. I use a three gallon tank that I keep in the storage area above the main tank. Sorry not sure how to post an image. Ill try to send one by email.
