I'm going to install a Weaver removable transom plate on my swim platform for slow trolling and backup power. The top of the transom plate is 8" above the swim platform and I'm not sure of the distance down to the water surface as I don't have my new R27 just yet (wish the damn ice would melt!). I'm not sure if I need a 15" or 20" motor shaft for this setup and would appreciate some advice.

If you are using it with a Dinghy as well ( Double Duty) I would go with a 15". Maybe you can try a test of shaft length and horse power to see which works best at one of the tug fests. Easier said than done. I live in an area with very shallow water and would only go with a 15'' shaft, otherwise I would always be tilting it, not easy to do. I had a F2.5 Yamaha and a 9.8 Tohatsu. The 9.8 weighed 81 lbs and would push the R27 slowly, but I always missed the weight and size of that F2.5. I also would not buy an outboard that did not have a flushing hose attachment. My tohatsu was a good engine but a pain to flush. Let us know how it goes and what you picked. Mike
