Subject: Knowing which way the outboard is pointing

In daytime is quite easy to know which way the outboard is orientated, but during early morning and nighttime with little light it's not so easy to know. Yes, one can use the steering wheel for this without looking but I always find I like to also have a visual indication.

So what I'm thinking of doing is to place a reflective red strip down the center line of the engine's cowling. This should help when daylight is limited and give a good feedback during daylight hours as well so long as cockpit passengers aren't in the way. 😱

Do you have an autopilot? If so, does the autopilot have a "rudder position indicator"? Our previous boat had a Raymarine 6001 autopilot - the rudder position indicator was at the bottom of the display (a series of lines).

I do have auto pilot so will look for that "rudder position indicator". Thanks.... 🙂

A must have when leaving a crowded dock in the dark at 4am also good to have in the fog. Easy to install and cheep found all parts on Amazon

You'll have to excuse me but I'm challenged when it comes to the world of web!
All I have is a kindle and I do a lot of shopping on Amazon prime I just typed in rudder angle indicator and a whole bunch showed up along with supporting hardware the hardest part was getting the wife's debit card out of her purse! Hope this helps Bob

Do you remember what you paid? I did an Amazon search for "rudder angle indicator" and prices varied from $15 to $425 and I didn't see the one that you have.

Amarine indicator 12-24dc (52mms stainless $29.99
Amarine sensor $19.90
Just looked on Amazon prime and they have in stock
Hope this helps Bob

Bob,
Thanks, it looks like this is the link to what you bought.
https://www.amazon.com/Amarine-made-Rud ... +indicator

When I did the Amazon search using Firefox, this one did not come up, but 106 other listings did. But when I did the same search using Safari.. it did show up, but only with 19 total listings. !!??
