Subject: Knowing which way the Yamaha F300 is pointing
Somewhere in another post I mentioned I would like a better means for knowing which direction my Yamaha F300 is pointing, but cannot find the post so am posting here....
The large gray cowling of the Yamaha F300 is at times kind of hard for me to quickly determine which way its pointing, especial when moving the boat in close quarters in my marina or elsewhere. It's not an issue when underway mind you. The gray color can at times merge into the gray background of the water and mist in the PNW areas.
So given this issue I came up with a simple solution for myself. A glorified rudder angle indicator, if you like.
Why not have a red line on the cowling's center line that is clearly visible from the helm.
So yesterday went to Home Depot and purchased a small roll of RED Scotch Extreme mounting tape. The adhesive is very sticky and quite likely would pull off any material it is stuck to when removing it.... so be careful if you use this type of tape.
No matter, I used this tape and placed a strip of it on the center line on the cowling's top surface. It is plainly seen from the helm position. I believe this will go a long way for me knowing quickly the direction the F300 is pointing.
