Has anyone here spent a week or so on Lake Chelan and have any advice on best spots, not to be missed hikes etc? We are planning on getting out there this year in September and I am just getting started on a plan.

I would also welcome any info on planning assistance, site descriptions etc. Best would be a blog from someone that has been on the lake mutiple times and is familiar with the different camp sites, hikes and activities.

Any and all info welcomed. Thanks!

If you haven't found it here's a thread from a while back with some good information.

This more recent thread about uphill anchoring mentions anchoring in Chelan.

Cheers,

Bruce

Jim,

Very timely post. Unfortunately, I can't give you any suggestions now, but a friend of yours, Ed D. (Cutwater 24) and I are going there the 2nd week of July. We'll report our discoveries!

You will need a dock permit, if you go on line you will see the camp grounds, trail heads and other information including docks. Most people launch at the state park, lake Chelan state park or Twenty five mile creek state park. The public launch in the town of Chelan is not useable for our boats due to the low clearance of the bridge. If you want a great fishing experience call Joe at (509)393-9665 he runs a charter out of that area a great and funny guy I would recommend only a half day because you will have more fish than you can store and your arm can't take the work out! Good luck and please report back about your experience. Bob
PS: watch out for the kids on jet skies on the south end of the lake!

Thanks!! I already learned two things I hadn't known ;-) No cell service means no wind reports, not something I thought about but now realize it has to be that way given the terrain and location.

Also, I didn't know about the low bridge, so that was helpful as well.

I certainly had already dug into Google on the campsites and features but still don't have any info on that part of it. Oh well, we are figuring on September so there is still plenty of time.

Thanks again.

Jim - some of our first boat camping was Lake Chelan and Lake Roosevelt back when we lived in Wenatchee and had a 17’ Lund. For Lake Chelan, we always launched at 25 mile. The scenic areas are up Lake from there. I just don’t recall much in terms of anchorages, but my boat then was not set up for that. Deep Lake. Assume docks to stay at, except maybe Stehekin. I experienced significant waves from the north one time - straight down the lake.

For cruising and beaches, we preferred Lake Roosevelt. Lots of coves to duck into. Great place to swim during the hot days.
