While at the Rendezvous in Bremerton, Maureen and I had the opportunity to ride Tim and Kim's folding bikes. While we had often viewed these from afar and could not imagine how they could possibly be good, we were quite surprised after test riding Tim and Kim's. The bikes rode and handled very well. They folded into a small enough package that two of them could easily be stored in the "basement" when not in use. They are made of alloy therefore will take a beating in the salt water environment they would be used in.

We were sold! The bikes we chose are built by Giant. We located a bike store within two blocks of Karma's new home and made the purchase. This past weekend we stayed at the dock as simply spent the weekend exploring the Ballard area on our new "dinghy's". Not only did we explore Ballard, we quickly made a trip over to Fisheries Supply on our "dinghy's", a trip of eight miles RT.

If you are considering bikes for your tug, I would certainly give these a try!

We have a set of folding bikes that go back and forth between the boat and the RV. Handy to have when the terrain onshore allows for riding. We strap ours to the radar arch on the boat, put them in a basement storage compartment in the 5th wheel. To add to the comfort, we bought "big butt seats" when we got our bikes - cushy!

In the Peterborough Lock on the Trent-Severn Waterway (see the bikes on the arch, behind the other dinghy)...

Hmmmm -- the pic links are broken... shame... 🙁

Sorry, baz, they are showing up on mine... maybe in the cache? Let me try this...

I originally linked the images from the C-Brats, this is from PhotoBucket; we'll see if that makes a difference. (They're showing up on Preview, but so did the first set.)

Best wishes,
Jim B.

For some reason, links from C-Brats don't always work, even if you are a member.

Thanks... Boy, that 2nd photo looks as if it could have been taken in the UK on one of its many canals. 🙂 Nice... Those cushy luxurious "big butt seats" look as if you can get two people on them side by side...

What's the weight of each bike ?

The seats ARE comfy! I haven't weighed the bikes, but they aren't lightweights. Easy/light enough for Joan to put on and off the top of the boat, and for me to fold and stick underneath in the RV. We do slide the seats/posts out of the bikes when packing them away - makes for a smaller package (just lay the seats next to the bikes). We picked up the bikes on sale at Camping World - inexpensive, including the "Big Butt" seats. Previously, we had a pair of Dahon folders, more $$ and they rusted something awful. If we are in a marina for more than overnight, we put the bikes on the bow of the boat instead of on top.

The Peterborough Lift Lock was one of our favorite places on the Trent-Severn. Well, second, behind the Big Chute Railway...
