Getting water through seals, during heavy rains, best solutions?

Check your deck drains to see that they are draining and the rubber seals on the inside of the hatches. On my Cutwater C24 the seals did not line up line up correctly and leaked badly when the boat was new. That should help a lot but you will probably get some leakage.

Definitely not water tight. Drain grates must be removed and make sure you regularly flush with hose. I replaced my gasket on the engine hatch with the self sticking EPDM sealing strip. I am not sure that the weigh of the lids are heavy enough to make the seal crush on the lip.

I had the same problem until just a week ago.

My first course of action was to take the rubber flappers off of the end of the drain system. I found these flappers to be too rigid and would clog any debris trying to move through lines.

Next I removed the hard plastic “screens” Where the water would drain.

I still have puddling at the drain site on the port side.

I tried to clear the lines with pressurized water, but this did not work.

Finally, by accessing through the lazaret, the engine room, and under the rear cockpit seat, I was able to access the lines themselves. The forward line is teed into the aft line before exiting the boat. I broke all of the hose clamps free and managed, after a good hour, to separate all of the hoses from the T fitting. I found the T fitting completely clogged. After clearing the fitting and put everything back together, the drain works exceptionally well.

The scupper drain lines sag in places and tend to collect debris in those places.
I have a set of emergency wood plugs on board.
When I wash the boat I often use a plug in one of the drains while I apply the dock hose to the other, then I change places and do it again for an effective blow out.
(Removed my flappers and little grates a long time ago.)

On our RT 27 OB, found a large number of mussels had found a home on the trim tabs and around the rubber flaps, preventing these from opening. Spent 30 minutes laying on the swim platform removing the mussels and my drainage issues were solved. It would seem the flaps need to be checked on a regular basis to ensure free movement.
