Leak in Sea Water Pump on 21EC

I have a small water leak through the seal on the Sea Water Pump in my 2014 R-21EC (Volvo Penta D1-30 engine). It's only a drip at this point but is something that I want to repair soon. I have read elsewhere that the seal can be replaced without removing the pump,,,,,just remove cover plate and impeller and then you can pop out and replace the seal. Was wondering if any owners have done this themselves and if the seal was difficult to pop out,,,has anyone performed a complete overall on the pump? A rebuild Kit is around $270.00 U.S,,,,,a complete pump assembly about $500 U.S

Was also wondering where Canadian owners get their parts? Just tried to order the seal and O-ring, about $20.00 U.S, and it will cost $58 U.S. in shipping. Crazy This was through Marine Parts Express.

Newf you might want to try ordering your parts from Amazon I have found I can get parts for a lot less than going through a marine supply and free shipping if you are a prime member. Just be sure to check for correct part number - hope this helps and saves you some money. Bob

Newf. I have not had to change this particular seal but it should be possible if you can get the part. My pump failed due to an over tightened belt and sprayed salt water all over the engine compartment. The over tightened belt placed too much lateral force on the pump causing failure and had to be replaced. Now I’m very careful about how much tension I place on the pump belt. I’m fortunate to have a Yanmar part supplier close by. Good luck with the repair.

I finally got around to replacing the seal. Decided to pop the pump off instead of doing it in-situ so I could check on bearings at the same time. Pump comes off easily and took no more than 15-min to remove. Bearings felt to be in good condition so did not dis-assemble the pump for bearing replacement at this time. The seal was relatively easy to pop out with the use of a makeshift tool and pushing from the back side. After moving it about 1/8" I pulled it from the front side with needle nose pliers. Will check it out in service when I go for a fish in a couple of days.
