Hello,

We are experiencing water entering the forward cabin (V-Berth) when we are in heavier seas (that is, water coming over the bow). This is a fairly serious leak and we are concerned with damage to the superstructure of the boat as well as to the internal structure of the forward cabin. We don't know if this is due to a gap in the inside of the anchor locker or because the rubber seal around the bow was not sealed properly and water is getting up and underneath, or due to problems with the stanchions.

In your experience, what could be causing these leaks? What can be done to resolve this problem.

Is it possible to respond directly to my email address which I believe you have on file.

Thank you,

Patrick

Unless someone else chimes in who has had a similar leak I would suggest getting out the hose and start directing a spray on suspected areas one at a time. It may take a while by testing different areas, but eventually you will find the issue. Do it a little at a time. It may take a while for the water to start running at the point you can see it.

Let us know how things progress.

Just a shot in the dark - is your compass mounted outside over the vee berth like the 29?
Those mountings are known to leak.

Mine did this the day I picked it up . My surveyor suggested in his survey that I put sealant around the windlass buttons on the deck . and I haven't had a leak since .

If its a lot of water, check your anchor locker drain hose. Run a hose in the locker and make sure the water is draining out of the outlet and not into the boat. Our first 25 did this after we hit heavy seas and the Ranger factory folks discovered our anchor locker drain hose had not been attached to the thru hull drain.

That's a good point . Im gonna check mine as well.

Hello Patrick,

Thanks for the note. I also agree with Doug that the anchor locker drain is a good one to start with. If you send us a detailed email directly with the areas you are seeing water, I can work with Port Boathouse and our factory where they are built to determine the cause and a good resolution for you. I don't think the stanchions are the place to be looking. You can email me direct at andrewcustis@rangertugs.com.

Thank you,

Also check under the helm door. Especially look at the screws holding the starboard trim in place under the door. Remove the screws and see what they hit or do not hit. They should only be 1/2 inch long and should not penetrate the door step well.

All cleared up - was repaired under warranty.... so happy.

For those of us who are out of warranty, what were the details?

The problem was a leak in the anchor locker ... needed sealing ... and they checked all around the connection between the deck and the main hull...

As a 35 year boater and a owner of 2 ranger Tugs I truly believe you will find no better customer service before, during or after the sale than the folks at Ranger Tug.

I too have a leak in the anchor locker that makes its way into the cabin when the locker is hosed down. The drain is good and sealed well. What exactly did they do and where to correct your leak? It may help me.

Thanks.
