We have a leak in the port side rear window on our R-29. Anyone tried to reseal one?? The deck in the cave has been water damaged from the leak so anyone had any luck refinishing the Feaux Teak decking?

Hello Pat and Carolyn,

Is this the very aft window on the boat that doesn't open or is it the outside window that opens? Are you seeing a leak from the frame itself?

The frame has a double sealed gasket around it. You can find this at most hardware stores. If you have any further questions you can email me at kennymarrs@rangertugs.com

Thanks,

Kenny,

We have not observed the leak itself. There is staining on the monkey fuzz and water damage on the entry deck of the cave. I suspect it is the port side window (the moveable unit) that is the source. I guess I should put a water hose on it and see if we can confirm its location.

Thanks for the response!

You might want to check the rub rail. We had a half inch of water in the cave last fall that didn't harm the "teak" but did stain the mouse fur. I assumed it was from a leaky window but it turned out to be water coming the loose rail, through the screws or gap and behind the fur below the end of the gutter on the roof. Found it during a particularly hard rain. (Actually it was the boat minder Michael and Island Yacht Watch; I live in Alberta) Worth a look if it's not the window. Put caulking on the screws and reset the rail. That was four months ago. No further problems. Good luck.
So far no luck getting the stain out.

Try hydrogen peroxide to remove the stains. Spray full strength and allow it to sit and do its magic. Works we'll for us on a Monkey Fuzz stains

Check the courtesy lights also, as they can be the source of leaks like that. It's easy to pop off the plastic lens and put some clear silicone underneath.

We had a similar problem when we had a 27 and after trying a few other things eventually found that there was a small gap - no more than half an inch - where the rubber gasket meets the fixed window. It looked like the gasket had shrunk or shifted. A bit of caulking in the gap fixed it. Worth a look.
