Length of stay...

Just for some conversation, I'm curious. What's the longest time you've spent at anchor and what was the most limiting factor? This past summer, my wife and I spent 7 days straight at anchor... We stopped at a state park to refill our fresh water, but no marinas and we were fine. 30 gallons of fresh water does not last long without conserving! We were on the Tennessee river.... a rather tame venue, and the weather was great! 2013 25sc.

On our 21EC we spent 36 days on the water this past summer. We anchor out 7 to 10 days at a time before going to a marina to get groceries, a pump out and water. We do carry a 5 gallon jug of water to add to the 10 gallons in the tank. With the extra batteries we can stay at one location 3 days before we start the engine to charge. We also can fit a case of water bottles in the port cockpit step where we put in an access port.

With my Admiral onboard, 3 days later the black water tank is full...

Your access port in the cockpit step is a great idea by the way!

Lisa and I have stayed at anchor for up to 10 days at a time without marina conveniences. The times we have have been in fresh water, where one can use the fresh lake or river water for bathing and boiling water to clean dishes, therefore affording to be able to stretch our water tanks longevity and time on the water between marina stops and or stays. With stops and or stays in marinas periodically, we've stayed on Kismet for up to 3 months at a time.

Wife and I both on board. We do carry a portapotti that we can empty on shore, that is my job, dig a hole and dump it in and cover with dirt. Where we cruise there are out houses in various locations that I can use too.

This has been my first year with my ranger 21 and I have no idea how you folks are staying out on the hook for 7+ days. I'm yet to have a good night sleep on her even at my boat house. I'm not giving up I will find a way but it's very impressive to me that your able to stay on the boat so long.

I, or should I say We, prefer being on a hook vs. at a marina. We spent 10 days out this summer, we stayed at a marina because they had a pool and we had our grand daughter aboard. Plus the A/C only works with shore power and it was 95 degrees every day. This year, I want to investigate getting more air flow thru the boat. I'm thinking a couple of wind scoops above the hatches?

Have you considered changing the matress with memory foam? We are thinking about it...

We bought a piece of 3" memory foam from Overstock.com and put it on top of the existing cushions. It is very comfortable. I'm glad we did it. It only cost $100 for a queen size. We cut it to shape with an electric carving knife.

The length of time staying out on the 21 EC IMO is totally dependent on each person(s) comfort level. We've modified the V-berth with a thicker memory foam mattress which makes it as comfortable as our home bed. We've added a 110 V air conditioner we can run during hot weather. Our typical time out consists of 2-3 days on the hook followed by a stop in a marina to get a shower and resupply ice/water. Could we stay out longer? Sure, but cruising is only as fun as your comfort. We love our boat and enjoy the flexibility of towing it to places where larger boats can't go. So, as the saying goes, TO EACH HIS OWN.

Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't think about cutting down more foam for the bedding.
