My 2015 RT-25SC has the factory-installed windlass, anchor chain and rode. I upgraded to a Rocna 22 lb. anchor and a Mantus swivel, which gives me a very robust ground tackle set-up. What is annoying is that I've noticed of late when I am retrieving my anchor using the Lewmar windlass, the chain gets slightly twisted at the top where the chain is about to enter the windlass housing. The chain links at that point do not seem to be properly aligned on the cogs drawing the chain into the windlass housing and so the chain jams. I have to let out some chain and then retrieve it back in; repeating this multiple times before the anchor is finally hauled all the way up to the top of the bow s/s plate. Is this problem caused by anchor chain twist? I'm not sure if it is because the Mantus swivel is made expressly to avoid this twist. Any thoughts on what the issue may be, or how I can solve this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Try replacing the anchor shackle with a swivel shackle.

or let the anchor out and let it hang for a few minutes in deep water. If there is a large twist in the chain it will untwist.

I suspect that over time without the swivel that your chain and rode may have gotten some good twisting in it. You may want to let it all out and set the anchor and wait a bit and then retrieve it. Letting the anchor hang a few minutes before pulling it up to the launch should eliminate any additional twist. Hopefully this helps.
