I've read a number of threads about folks with new Ranger Tugs and Cutwater Boats outboard discussing lightweight and/or flexible tender power options.

We saw the EP Carry electric outboard system at the Anacortes Boat & Yacht Show last weekend. The company is based in North Bend, WA and their system is designed and built in the USA. Looks pretty cool. Their kits are complete and and the motor weighs 14 lbs with a number of smart and simple features.

(We have a Torqeedo on our R-31, but this is worth checking this out if you're looking for a solution.)

Cheers,

Bruce

Its the same price as the torqueedo 503.

I wish them well but they need to differentiate themselves somehow.

Thanks Bruce.... 🙂 I was planning to visit the Anacortes show but got tied up....

Were they handing out any discount coupons I wonder ?

The EP Carry battery is almost 1/2 the price compared to the Torqeedo 503 battery. Mind you, you can obtain a 50 Ah Lithium battery on Amazon for around $350 which weighs in at 10 lbs which I have for my WaterSnake Venom 34/30 Saltwater motor ($199 or free when buying a full SeaEagle FastTrack kayak package). The Torqeedo batteries are around 11 Ah so the Amazon 50 Ah is by far a better option for performance and cost.

The torquedo battery is 320wh or 30v 11a. The amazon 50a battery is only 12v but 500wh

I have used the Torqeedo 1003 with a Portland Pudgy. It worked well but placed too much moment force on the Pudgy's transom when run at full speed. I had to strengthen the transom some to feel safe operating the Torqeedo 1003.

What I found about the Torqeedo during my use was that the prop tended to pickup weeds easily which would wrap around the prop until so much was wrapped it stalled the engine. The battery is a monster IMO and is quite heavy, and if you lost your balance or the battery slipped from your hand when installing it onto the motor it could very well fall into the water.

The initial C-clamp on my 1003 was too shallow for holding the unit on the transom. I complained about this and Torqeedo were nice enough to send me free of charge a larger C-clamp kit which worked much better.

For a small dinghy the Torqeedo is 'overkill' IMO and too expensive, along with its proprietary battery.

Hello Baz, While searching for mentions of our product, I stumbled accross this thread. Joe from EP Carry here.

You asked if EP Carry is handing out coupons- the price is discounted $100 until the 28th of May. Use code SHOW$100 at checkout or call in.

We have 2 tug owners running our dinghy motors and it was very nice to meet more at the show. Joe
