Live Webinar, 4/23/20 - Tugnuts on the loose!

A series of questions:

- What do you recommend to use for antifouling the running gear. Any experience with prop speed.
- What hex tool do you use to remove and then reinstall the port side of the rear thruster on a 29CB, the one that comes with the boat doesn’t seat.
- my fresh water pump is very noisy. Should the fresh water strainer be filed with water? Mine is not when running it’s maybe 3/4. Do you sell the o ring as a spare part?
- are the windows UV resistant?
- which online source of general seamanship classes do you recommend .
- can you recommend any particular classes to get Coast Guard Captains license.

Thanks

I'm sure you all have learned a lot in the past 10 years of building RT's; do you have a short list of upgrades you might recommend for those of us that own Classic 29's and 31's? Maybe things driven by code/regulation changes, or just items where you found a better way to do it, like......

Install an ELCI
Other electrical upgrades
Install transom zinc to improve galvanic corrosion control
Different brand/model of bilge pumps that might be more reliable
Etc.
Etc.

Fluid Motion Staff,

Do all inboard diesel owners know that you MUST close the sea cock prior to beginning a tow when the diesel is not running? Failure to close the sea cock prior to a tow when the engine is not running can and/or will lead to hydro locking the diesel engine.

Does Fluid Motion know that there is no mention of this requirement in the boat's or Volvo engine operating manuals? And that there is no Danger or Warning Tag hung on the sea cock valve?

.

I am NOT trying to answer this but to better understand what did happen and for others and myself what not to do.

But this can only happen with a raw water cooling system, yes? Not with a closed system. Or am I missing something? Never had a engine with a turbo.

Could the STAFF bring more light to this?

How easily could an AIS 300 user upgrade to AIS 600?

Following up on first webinar, did you test the amps on the anchor light?

What would be the advantage of adding an after market battery meter as some owners have done? We already have one on the Solar meter and one on the switch panel.

Does adding a second solar panel make sense without adding battery capacity?

On this post, my understanding if we did add another solar panel the controller would need to be changed out for a bigger one that is rated higher. Yes?

Would we void the warranty by changing it out?
That bigger models would you suggest?

To anyone wanting to upgrade there AIS unit. I would look at Visper https://www2.vespermarine.com/xb8000-ais-transponder It was WiFi and USB. Works great with my Garmin. Be aware with any AIS tranponder that you will need to mount its own GPS antenna.

Will the swim platform & railing on a R-29 CB support the use of a lifting davit engine hoist unit such as the Garhauer LD 6-1 M short or long arm with 100lb lifting capacity (https://www.garhauermarine.com/transom- ... avits.html)?

Planned use is for lifting a 60 lb Yamaha 6hp outboard from cockpit rail to RIB and back.

Alarm when trolling using the aft station.
Hi,
I often get an alarm from the aft steering station when I am trolling. The beep occurs every 20 seconds and is quite loud. On the side of the power control there is also a yellow caution symbol lit up. The warning manager on the main console shows no warnings and the he 'warnings manager' tab on your Volvo display also shows no warnings. Auto pilot NOT in use. I have in the past successfully made the beep stop by shutting the engines off and then on again, but this does not always work. Does anyone have any ideas?

Tony

Seconding Tony's observation of the engine alarm sounding randomly and for no apparent reason. We have had this happen several times at the flybridge helm on our R29CB; the only way to stop it from sounding is to turn the engine completely off and then restart. Similarly to Tony, there no warnings in the warning manager and all systems were nominal. I'm curious if this is happening to others?

Can you 'careen' your tug? In other words, can I allow the tide to go out and let my boat settle dry on the sandy/muddy bottom?

If so, any tips for how to do it safely / anything I should prep?

I have a possible summer destination which would mean my RT29CB would 'dry out' twice a day for a week...

Why are you no longer installing cushioned seats on the bow of the R29? Given the hatches are still there, any reason I shouldn't add a set? What did you learn / want to avoid that I now should know? 😀

My most frustrating issue with my 2016 c30 is the auto pilot. I purchased the boat new and since have had to replace the autopilot pump three times. Each year, now going into season 4 of owning the boat pump number 3 seems to be acting up. Contacted Garmin and was told that after all you guys and Garmin have gone through Garmin has developed a kit to rectify the problem. My question who installs it and is it covered under warranty. The pump in my boat is less than a year old. Need some help here please. Thanks, Harry

Two questions:

For a salt water boat with a Volvo Penta diesel engine - Should the engine raw water cooling system be flushed out with fresh water if the boat will not be used for an extended period?

What is the limit of positive stability for the boats that you build, and particularly our 2017 R-27 Classic.

Thank you.

Third question:

For the EZLoader two torsion axle trailer, what is the best way to raise a wheel off the ground to change a flat tire?

Thank you.

Have two questions regarding power management. Really like the excel tool.

1) Our 2010 Ranger Tug 27 OB Northeast Edition, came with Krupp's coffee maker and Television. Would like to add them to the power management spreadsheet Do you know the wattage draw?

2) Since I do not have a generator and info on tugnuts sort of indicates it could be a nice to have but a cost issue. That said would like to understand if a second solar panel could be installed and more importantly wired in series easily? Plug and play into the current solar panel? The additional 96 watts would be interesting buffer.

Thanks,

Along with others, I'm curious about the types of wood and surfaces on the inside of my C-28 for care, maintenance, and modification. Wood paneling, fabrics, counter tops, cabinet doors, etc.

Thanks!

Can you increase throttle on Yamaha outboard f200 without putting gear?

Is the anchor light in the mast an LED bulb?

Logging maintenance... with Yamaha and alarm on boat
...I got 20 hr maintenance notification from Yamaha online and recently the alarm on my Garmin for 50 hr maintenance... Questions..how do I clear the alarm on Garmin and do I need to log the 50 hr maintenance with Yamaha again?

Question regarding the two windows on both sides in the front portion of the R27 OB: is there a reason that there isn’t a frame around the outside of the window to cover the caulking?

On the webinar now- hope this question isn't too late.

I have a 2020 C24. Why isn't the aft bilge pump at the lowest point under the middle locker? Mine is mounted about 5" above the drain plug.

I also don't understand how this could happen with a closed circuit system. Maybe we should move this to a separate thread?
