Subject: Location of exhaust port on Ranger Tugs
On our R-21EC the exhaust port is well clear of the water line and has no self closing rubber flap covering the port. On all other Ranger Tug models the exhaust port is at the water line and half immersed and has a self closing rubber flap presumably to keep critters and debris out.
Is there any technical reason for this or is it simply a manufacturing limitation of where the port can easily be placed, or even a means to lessen the exhaust noise, or some form of ABYC regulation ?
It would seem to me that having the exhaust port above the water line is more beneficial.
According to this http://www.sbmar.com/articles/designing_a_marine_exhaust_system/ the exhaust port should be at a minimum of 12-inches (a safety margin) above the water line. 😱
