Fellow tugnuters,

I am trying to locate the location of the circuit breaker for the Onan Generator on a new Ranger 31 Sedan.

The generator starts, but it doesn't power the air conditioner. The air conditioner works fine when plugged into shore power.

I checked the troubleshooting manual and it says if the air conditioner doesn't run to reset the circuit breaker. Now I just need to find the circuit breaker. Any idea where to look?

The next step is to find out what tripped the circuit breaker. I've been using the generator nearly every time I go out since its been really hot. I checked the seacock feeding the air conditioner's water pump and cleaned it out, it really wasn't that dirty, but I cleaned it anyhow. Any suggestions on what could cause the circuit breaker to trip.

Thanks for your help! Robin

It’s on the generator it’s self. Top left-hand side of the big white sound shield. Give me a call if you want me to walk you through it. Best, Bobby

Thanks Bobby!

Tomorrow morning I will go back to the boat and try to find it. I thought that I looked on top of the generator, but I must not have looked hard enough. I will let you know what I find tomorrow. If I find it, I will take a picture and post it for others.

Regards, Robin

Hopefully that is the fix. While underway these past 3 days up in the Chesapeake we've been running it 14 hours a day until it just quit. Fortunately it was nearly 6pm and we were near our anchorage on the Sassofras River so I could reset the breaker. No go. Now we sit in a nice marina hooked to shore power waiting for the generator guru to arrive. Hoping it is just a burnt out capacitor.

Bobby,

Thank you for your help this morning.

The rest of this post is for everyone else trying to find the circuit breaker switch. Open the hatch to service the motor and you will find a white generator in the back. Up top on the left side of the generator you will see some switches and buttons. The circuit breaker is all the way at the top. https://www.dropbox.com/s/2oi6siqkd2bnxvo/generator.jpg?dl=0

You cannot see the switch without laying on the engine. It is the toggle switch all the way at the top. https://www.dropbox.com/s/zlrx05jzzvrfqq7/generator circuit breaker switch.jpg?dl=0

I tried everything to get the toggle switch to stay to the left, which is on.
1. Turned off all of the power on the electrical panels.
2. Turned the generator off using the red on and off switch shown on the picture
3. Turned off shore power

Based on these tests, I am assuming that it is a bad circuit breaker switch, which is sad because the boat is only a bit more than a month old.
