The depth readings on my 28 are a bit erratic. I updated the software which did not help. I want to check the transducer to ensure it is attached correctly. Where exactly is the transducer on the 28 and more importantly, how the heck do I get to it? I searched the forums but could not find an answer.

Thanks!

Good morning SEADOT,
We have a 26 Cutwater, same boat inside, you just have two more feet in your cocpit.
Our tranducer is in the forward cabin at the foot of the two steps.
On your knees facing aft lift up the small floor pannel at the base of the steps & I think you will find it their along with the shower sump box.
Good luck!

Thanks Mike! I'll check it out.

The transducer is located in the fwd berth just behind the shower sump. In the older cutwaters they are bonded to the hull with a urethane. I would really be interested in what speeds you are seeing the issues on your depth.

Before any aggressive action like in reseating your transducer, make sure your sounder selected depth range is reasonably within your actual depth. You can and will get erratic sounder readings if there is a large discrepancy between.

Ronnie,

The depth issues occur at planing speeds. I have no issues when the boat is not on plane.

Thanks for your help.

Wayne,

I checked the Garmin and depth is set to Auto. Thanks!

OK maybe stretching here as I did not design and test the boat under various conditions, but consider this if you have more than average weight around the stern while the transducer is toward the bow near the steps into the v-birth. Get lots of weight forward, trim tabs bow down so the transducer is reading through water without any air as may?? happen with the bow very high. Any combination of less weight aft and more weight forward and see if it reads properly at speed.

Also: Anything attached to the hull or damage to the gel coat just forward of the transducers that would crate bubbles in the water at speed?

Best, Wayne
