We will be taking the summer next year to cruise the PNW and a friend of ours who is very a very capable mariner wants to rent a Ranger to travel with us for a week or so. Does anyone have information on a facility that rents Ranger tugs in the PNW?

Thanks,

Mike Rizzo

R-29 Cherry K out of Anacortes Yacht Charters. Here's a YouTube video about a family's charter experience in the San Juan and Gulf Islands this summer. You can get a look at the boat, and a preview of the islands.

Cheers,

Bruce

There is a R-29 in Skyline, Anacortes that I think is a 2012 available through a yacht rental company. The boat name is Zuma. I will go by there tomorrow and get their name and phone number.

Zuma was rented recently by some friends of ours and is a 2010, I believe. A/C and generator, which is fairly rare in the PNW. A beautiful R29, but tail heavy with the stainless davit system, genset and AC. Max cruise was around 12 knots. By chance, we also saw Cherry K on the same trip in Friday Harbor. This is the traditional blue hull versus Zuma's seafoam green (beautiful boat), but looks much newer. It was finely detailed when I saw it. Looked like a brand new vessel, which is unusual for a rental. Both are R-29s and fine boats, which is what we own. You'll have a blast either way, but I prefer the look of Cherry K and believe it has the capacity for faster max cruise if the extra power is ever needed.

Mike,
Rick, Dave, or Dunn? Maybe the factory has a used piece they would let someone borrow. 🙂

I believe the Cherry-K is no longer available. I recently called and the owners are removing it from the rental service

Sorry, it was tug-time that was removed from service at Anacortes Yacht Charter

Mike,
This morning I went to Ship Harbor which does the boat rentals and has the Zuma. They can be reached at (360) 299-9193 or (877) 772-6582.

Cherry K may be going out of service with Anacortes Yacht Charters, but my wife and I are in the process of buying a 2012 R29 from the factory (a trade in for a R31) and plan on putting it into service with them in the next few months.
If all goes well it will be available in late winter/early spring and on into the boating season for the forseeable future. This boat is beautiful and has just about all the options except A/C and genset which are not really needed in the PNW.
The boat is not yet named, but due to the timing of our decision to try this coinciding with the recent boat show where we saw the boat, will probably be named "Serendipity".

Thanks for the info Brad. I will keep it in my files and pass it off to my friend for when he is ready to cruise.

The good folks at Anacortes Yacht Charters told me last week that Cherry K will not be available for charter next spring -- although she was still in her slip at the marina.
So the only Ranger 29 to charter from them will be the one mentioned just above (Serendipidy)
