I am looking for recommendations for buying a rear view camera.
Preference is:
1) rechargeable after a 10 hour boat day
2) use iPad8 for a monitor
3) wireless
4) very wide angle
5) under $200 (really $400 cause everything is double)
6) blue tooth (not wi-fi since may be no cell service)
7) works in various lighting conditions (rain, clouds, bright sun)
Questions:
1) is reverse image ideal
2) where to mount for backup and cruising
3) is image stabilization available
4) will image be visible for boat angles at various speeds

I am on the same quest. I have looked at the solar license plate versions on Amazon. I am considering mounting the camera on our R27 OB dinghy lift.

Yea, it comes with a separate monitor screen, but it is wireless. While it could function as a rearview mirror, my main concern is backing in marinas or tight docking.

The “Admiral” and I use Eartec headsets, but I am thinking having a belt with suspenders decreases stress.

We use a camera like this one:

Lots of choices on Amazon. I’d like a hard wired camera from Garmin, but the wireless and inexpensive choice won out. I also use a clamp on mirror up on the command bridge that gives me a good view of what’s happening behind me.

I use this one for the boat when towing our console style dingy across to the island. Also use it when towing our travel trailer. Made a mount that goes in a rod holder, and my phone is the monitor, or could use iPad. Strong magnet on bottom, about $100 on Amazon

second "the motion" from Ruff Seas. We use the same camera. WIreless, simple. I just velcro strap it on our dingy which is on the back with Weaver Davits.

I tried several and settled on the Garmin GC-200, hardwired to the NMEA 2000. We are able to view it on the Garmin 8616.
